Default Walnuts and Pineapple - Food Allergies & Sex (or the lack thereof)

Does this thread fall under "Safe Sex"? You judge. At a house party, a couple is introduced. The woman catches my attention immediately. She is everything for which I have been saving myself. I schmooze. I warm up to her. She acts interested. Then the hostess brings out a tray. My new female acquaintance reaches then hesitates. "Do any of these treats have walnuts?", she asks. "I made the brownies using walnuts", our hostess intones. "I can't eat walnuts. I'm morbidly allergic." There I am, sitting next to this vision of loveliness, with a fudge-walnut brownie sticking out of my mouth. Mrs. Lovely continues, "If I even kiss someone who has eaten walnuts, I have a reaction." My mind races. Do they have condoms for lips? Damn! "I'm allergic to peanuts and pineapples too", she continues. At this point, my wife, having paid little attention to the earlier parts of the conversation and having heard the word "pineapple", speaks up and informs the entire group that I have been eating pineapple slices all week because I live with the belief that it makes semen taste more pleasant. Damn, double damn. Would knowingly causing an allergic reaction in somebody be like passing an STD?

Wow! I think if she describes her allergy as morbid, you have to respect that. There was this case a couple of years ago. I would have asked her experience with her allergy and its manifestations. I wouldn't know what trace levels would have to be present to affect a horrible reaction. How much time has to pass after consumption to be safe? How does one know that a tiny piece lodged in the mouth that was missed by regular brushing/flossing, might not come out somehow? If there is no mouth to mouth contact is everything o.k? I'd just ask. Depending on her sensitivity, I'm not sure that swinging is the wisest of ideas for her.

LOL...I know I'm a bad person but damn that's just funny!

This person may want to actually put this in their profile or let potential partners know before they get together. I can't imagine spending an evening getting warmed up just to find out my snack just killed it all!

I'd be willing to bet this instance would be more like murder.

We have some friends where the female is allergic to all shellfish. Of course, her husband loves shellfish. What really throws me is that when we go out as a group he will eat shellfish, which basically precludes any action between them for the rest of the night. One of those things that makes me go "huh?".

As for your situation, I would have to say that yes, if you knowingly cause an allergic reaction on someone that would be about as bad as knowingly passing an STD. An allergic reaction may not be as bad or as long term, or it could be far worse depending on the person.

Oops! I must correct my story. The woman, as she explained to all of us, is morbidly allergic to peanuts. The same, I suppose, as the woman who died from the kiss of which, thank you for sending the link, I had not heard before. She is very allergic to walnuts. Walnuts would not kill her; just give her a moderate to severe gastric distress.

Well, in a way, it is, I think. I did ask her, when fewer people were within hearing range, if she was allergic to latex. I have never had the pleasure of oral sex using a condom but like a good Boy Scout, always have them with me. That would have prevented her having to endure any lingering taste of pineapple.

Well, a little more research has uncovered this article where the coroner denies the girl died from an allergic reaction to peanuts. But he won't say what the real cause was. Still, I guess there are other documented cases of kissing leading to allergic reactions.

Ugh, that had to be a total letdown! But thank goodness you found out before something scary happened. And I agree that if someone has allergies that severe, they should put it in their profile and make it known to any potential playmates.
