I have had genital herpes for 7 years now and have learned alot.. There are all kinds of myths.. I ca't spread it if I am not having an outbreak..I had it years ago and it went away.. medications can cure it.. There is a med (Valtrex) that will reduce/eliminate symptoms.. but once you have it you have it..at least 20% of all of us have it..and I can't believe that # is not higher in the swinging crowd. 85-90% of the over 40 crowd have Herpes I..lots and lots of folks.. There is a test for herpes II that is pretty accurate.. My conclusion is that many of the swinging crowd just pretend they don't have it with all the usual denials. My Partner and I are out front in our add...and we have not had one response from anyone saying they have herpes, thats disappointing.. Somebody out there either doesn't know they have it or would rather not admit it. The stigma just forces people to hide it. I would like to find some swing sites for folks with std's, I know of two. I'm at jim51450@sbcglobal.net and by the way..anybody wanna play?? |

Herpes 1 isn't the bad one. You can get it genitally or orally, most people have the oral kind. Kissing can spread it quite easily. Genital herpes 1 rarely (years between or not at all) outbreak, and most people with it oral or genital do not get outbreaks. Herpes 2 is a whole different nasty animal. | |

| Here to Stay | I have a question that has interested me for quite a while. If a person has a coldsore on the mouth, which is, also Herpes, and gives oral sex to another: who has a cut, from shaving, etc., or a scratch on the penis after masturbation, or in the vagina, from sharp fingernails, can the receiving individual get Genital Herpes? Is that the way Genital Herpes began? I only had a coldsore once, when I was a teenager, and after it cleared up, never experienced such again. Thank you for any reply. Jeok |

Yep, if someone gives oral while they have a cold sore they can give the person Herpes, whether they have any cuts or not. Herpes is contracted by contact, it doesn't need sores or cuts to be transfered. It is common to contract both HSV 1 (the common cold sore variety) or HSV 2 (the one people are most commonly referring to when they say "genital Herpes") in the genital area. Since the Herpes virus will survive for a considerable period of time outside of the body it is even possible for it to be spread by the hands or on towels or clothing.
