What kind of birth control do you use?

A recent visit to the Dr. revealed high blood pressure, and the Dr. immediately telling me to stop taking the pill, which has been my friend for a long time. Sad day, indeed. So now, I'm revisiting the issue.

What do you and your SO use? I don't want more kids, but the hormones that are in the pill were kind to my cycle and made everything more manageable (lighter, less cramps, etc.). There is an IUD out there that releases a small amount of hormones that keep things more manageable, plus they're 99.8% effective. Permanent fixing doesn't fix my other issues, eventhough I'm not adverse to it.

So, what works for you guys? And for those who use the IUD, what is your experience?

At home, we only rely on the fact that my tubes are tied. However, when we play it has to be wrapped up! I'm clean and want to stay that way.

well i got fixed as no other BC was allowed, i am diabetic over 30 and smoke, so no pills patches atc. I could hae used to depo but had bad experience with that, and kids are done. As for your other ailments regarding your period, well i guess you will have to live with them. Sooner or later this day was going to come. I don't mean to be harsh but that is a fcat, you can't stay on the pill forever.

On the up side if it is that bad maybe a hysterectomy is in your future, at least i think it is an upside, no more worries about pap tests etc......

I just recently got the Mirena IUD and I love it. No pills to remember everyday, no condoms (with James), and no worries with messy diaphrams (sp). I've used the pill, Depo, diaphrams, and condoms and hated all of them, The Mirena is the easiest form of birth control have ever used. The insertion process is easy, the was a little bit of cramping for like 10 seconds and that was it. I was under the impression that you had to wait a week before you could have sex, LOL my GYN told me that it was effective immediately, boy was I happy!!! you have to check for the strings every month after your cycle to make sure it is there - that takes like 2 seconds, just check, don't tug on the strings (you don;t want to pull it out). I had a little more cramping than normal with my first cycle and a couple of extra days of spotting, but I feel that it's worth the trade off. Also, as you use it, over a year, there is a decrease in flow, and alot of women have no cycle at all. All positives in my book. If you aren't done having your family, or aren't 100% positive yet (our situtation), this is the way to go. When we are done with having our family, we are BOTh getting fixed - hey what's good for the goose, is good for the gander!

We are both fixed - which makes things very relaxed. Should we ever have a child, will name him Jesus...

We are the same, both fixed, I don't know what we would name our child though.

Put us in the "both fixed" category too. G actually had a tubal reversal when we married so she could bear my only child (any wonder why I love this woman???

). We tried like hell to have another, but it wasn't in the cards... her tubes closed up again. She offered to have the surgery AGAIN, but I said no...that's going way beyond the call of duty. When her gyno got concerned about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, I got snipped.

I'm surgically safe.
I had tubal ligation after our 3rd child was born.

I'm on the Pill because I can get pregnant but not carry a child anymore and when we play, it's condoms as well.

reading everyones feedback i may be the one that only practices natural planning. once it was a surprise....the other 2 were planned.

The Mr is fixed and I recently went back on Depo (shot every three months), but condoms are a must with us. Don't want any little nasty diseases that I can't get rid off.
