Dito Amanda...

Tests are pretty easy to come by and not all that expensive.

Is that a blood test? Has it been improved? Do you do it on a regular basis?
I think that it used to be (4-5 years ago) somewhat inaccurate.

I found this on the "herpes. com" website.

"Oral herpes, an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus, is estimated to be present in 50 to 80 percent of the American adult population. 20 percent, over 50 million people, are infected with genital herpes, also caused by the herpes simplex virus, and the majority of these cases may be unaware they even have it. Studies show that more than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with genital herpes each year, and the largest increase is occurring in young teens."

The problem is, the majority of the population has some sort of herpes and many of them don't know it. I suffer from "cold sores" myself -- ever since I was child, and so I could transmit those to a partner's genitals through oral sex. So far, that's never happened even with my ex-husband of nearly 20 years. (I'm convinced a certain portion of the population is actually immune to the virus.)

Even so, I try to be careful not to kiss or do anything else when I'm having an outbreak or even suspect that I'm going to have an outbreak. Still, the danger remains. On the other hand, at least H can't kill you! But it will be a happy day when the vaccine is here.

Well - considering the tests said I didn't have it, I just choose to ignore the outbreaks

Seriously - with zero symptoms and cinsistently negative test results - I have to say, I feel pretty confident that I don't have it. :rollseyes
