Whats stopping you from contracting an STD from unprotected oral sex?

In an earlier thread I said we were thinkink about swinging, and to be sure we have been asking you some questions. My wife has asked this which is quite important I think. Whats stopping anyone contracting an STD through oral sex, are there strict rules on hygiene or does it all rely on trust. forgive us for being direct but you can understand the concern.

As in much of everything in life, there are no guarantees. Hygiene plays a role, but to be as safe as you can possibly be, this hygiene includes the use of condoms and/or dental dams while performing oral sex. While neither of these will totally eliminate the risk, they do decrease the risk substantially.

JD a Dental Dam is used to put over the entire Vagina so you do not come in contact with the Secretions. I know I think it defeats the point expecially since if your gonna do it you probalby like the taste. But it is a way to lower your risk of catching an oral STD

Good question ... I haven't even ever seen one in my life. lol We stick to condoms and knowing our partners really well.

I've never seen a dental dam, either. I have heard of using a sheet of Saran Wrap to cover the vagina. I think if I were that worried with a lady, I'd just suddenly remember an appointment I had to take my aunt to the emergency room.

Seriously, I asked a doctor this question.

He said there is little liklihood of transmitting an STD orally because the body has strong defenses in the form of stomach acid and other pretty powerful chemicals in the mouth. That's why mamma lions lick their cubs' wounds, to prevent infection.

The AIDS virus, he told me, dies very quickly in such an environment. I don't remember if he told me the risks of getting other STDs or not, but you might do some research on the net.

We have always restricted our exposure by partner selection and playing only with couples. Swingers, as a group, are freer from STDs than the general population, I think. There is an unscientific STD survey on this board. As I recall, there were very few reports of getting an STD from swingers.

Its a minor risk we are willing to take.

We take a LOT of time selecting play partners, but its a gamble.
