Is it possible to pick up an STD from being in a hottub? If there was a person in the hottub prior to you and they had an STD and were in the hottub naked, couldn't it be transmitted to others?

Most STDs are viruses...and most viruses can not live long outside the body. I would think it would be very unlikely to catch an STD from a hot tub, but bacteria does thrive in a hot tub, so I would think that open wounds could get infected that way. Might be a good research project unless someone here is otherwise an expert. |

The attached article from Wikipedia covers the main forms of STDs (and explains the difference between and STI (eg, HIV infection) and STD (e.g., AIDS). It also has lots of links if you want to find out more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexuall...tted_infection Most of the really familiar names on the list are caused by bacterial infection and are relatively easily cured. The viral ones, like herpes or AIDS, can be treated but not currently cured. (I am not sure if this is true of all viral STDs??) It doesn't answer you question directly, but I'd say that the previous post is right.... not much of a chance. The real problem with Hot Tubs is that cum floats about until it catches in your hair.... as romantic as it sounds, I assure you. |

I think a properly maintained/sanitized tub is not likely to allow much in the way of anything (bacterial or viral) to survive. I wouldn't worry much unless not much care is given to sanitation of the spa. Of course, unless it's your spa, how do you know??

I will not set a foot in a hot tub unless I know the owner and I know the owner is a fanatic about cleaning it. I know too many women (myself included) that got bacterial infections from them. |

Not a hot tub fan, myself. Generally not a fan of sitting in a tub of warm water of any kind. Don't even take a bath unless I shower afterward. Most definitely do not like to sit in a tub of any kind with people I do not, or barely know. | |
