However Bridgette Kerkove, who said she was in the porn movie business, mentioned in another thread that she had used a product to prevent STD's while working in the film business ( it may indeed be that they are experimenting with some kind of experimental substance). Deciding to find out a little more about such a product , I did a search and found that research is being carried out on a gel substitute for the condom which will give some protection. The most effort is to develop a product which will give some protection against the AIDS virus. Also, in Canada it sounds as if they are working with some kind of gel using chemicals found in toothpaste or mothwash which seems to work against STD's. Both sound as if they are several years away yet from development. To read a little more visit the following sites: One Two Three |

That isn't very far off. http://www.cellegy.com/products/savvy.html What is nice about this stuff: even if it is somewhat less effective than a regular condom, if you combine it with the improved testing technology that is coming on line, folks should be able to have a pretty dang safe experience. What I would guess here: the first generation liquid condom will probably be about half as effective as a regular condom(say 85-90% risk reduction when used as opposed to 90-95% risk reduction for a regular condom). However, the thing is a lot of folks will use these liquid condoms that won't use regular condoms-so the net effect is likely to be much more substantial. If folks can get over their hangups around using testing in combination with condoms, we should have communities with a very high level of safety. |
