I've read elsewhere that there are a few genes involved here-one is centered in western Europe, and another in Eastern Europe. I've heard it suggested these may have proliferated in Europe during the Black Death(which weeded out folks that lacked these types of genes).

Heard a story about the illegal importation of meat into the country of Britain. Meat like Hippo and Monkey. There is some thought that people eating meat from these sources and not cooked properly could be the cause of AIDS. Anybody else hear anything like that?

I've heard that for a while-there are quite a few theories floating around. I tend to doubt that particular hypothesis. I've seen the "first" AIDS case pushed back a few times. It looks to me like this disease was somehow kept to a small population for quite a while. It seems like it needs some specific conditions to spread. It only spreads well as an STD in certain populations(i.e. population whose ancestors were less heavily hit by black death and/or malnurishied-and IV drug use seems to clearly help spread of AIDS).

Honestly, I think the "monkey origin" may largely be just some Politically Correct propaganda. If there were specific human groups that were especially influential in the spread/development of AIDS, I really doubt academia could deal with it.
