Hi all. I have an allergy to latex (not the bad kind where you can die but the kind where your skin gets super irritated). Anyway I tried having sex with someone who used a trojan condom and I was sooo irritated that I couldn't have sex for a week after. The only kind I can seem to use is Durex. Anyone else have this problem? I looked up latex allergies and apparently it has something to do with powder or something they use on them.

I *her* also have problems with the latex condoms feels as if im on fire I have switched to those that are non-latex and have no problems with them they are also thinner and the men seem to like them better also say they have more feeling with them I wouldnt know about that since the burning was quite a feeling lol but you do run a higher risk of one breaking. My fave is the Durex avanti superthin and just when you thought you seen it all theres Musical Condoms

I have a similiar allergy, although mine seems to stem from the combination of latex and Spermicide. I avoid Trojan condoms like the plague, because pretty much every time I've run into problems it's been with them. Initially, I thought they were the cause, until one night I was playing with a latex toy I have and we used some lube that had spermicide in it. OUCH!!! So now I just avoid Spermicide and I seem to do ok.

My partner has a severe allergy to latex as well as a mild one with many spermices that they put on them. Trojan makes a non-latex but she is allergic to the spermacide. Durex is great but she started to develope a mild irritation to their spermicide as well after about a year. Anyone know if there is a non-spermiced/non-latex condom being offered somewhere? We have switched to the pill so that she doesn't become permanently allergic to the Durex and isn't able to play with others. |

I too am allergic to many condoms. I have noticed that my skin gets irritated not from the latex, but from the nonoxynal-nine. I am ok as long as I choose condoms that do not have any spermicide.

Maybe you could try the "Naturalamb" condoms, last I knew they were not made of latex. My wife actually prefers I use a condom when we are together, I did it once or twice and she said wow thats nice....no mess for me to clean-up. |

Lambskin condoms are effective at preventing pregnancy. However, viruses (such as HIV and many other sexually-transmitted diseases) may still pass through the condom. The new polyurethane condoms are thinner and supposedly more hypo-allergenic than latex. However, the research is still being done to determine the effectiveness. I say if you can't handle latex but can't stand not swinging, try the poly condoms. They're undoubtedly safer than lambskin. |
