EBF,

I am shy - hence the name and .... I guess I wanted the feedback but was feeling vulnerable at the same time. Just second thoughts. I am ok now I appreciate the encouragement and your thoughts. She has already gone to a Women's center so things I am sure will be looking up for her.

Again, thank you to all of you who posted and gave your thoughts and opinions. You guys helped a lot!

Thanks!

I understand. I believe you'll find the members of this board to be extremely friendly, empathetic, and helpful to anyone that comes along and post as nicely and sincerely as you did. That makes all the difference in the world and as a result, I think you'll find lots of friends to be made here.

OK, I'm going to show some ignorance.

Is HPV and herpes the same thing or am I confusing something.

HPV stands for Human Papillomavirus.
There are several different types of strains. Some of the strains cause genital warts.

HSV-1 & HSV-2 are Herpes.

I used to get them confused too. Too many damn H's & V's!

Hi again! Here's a good definition for HPV I found:
Quote:
There are many types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Some types cause common, plantar, filiform, or flat warts. Other types cause genital warts, a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that affects men and women. In women, high-risk types of HPV (such as types 16, 18, 31, and 45) cause changes in the cells of the cervix that can be seen as abnormal changes on a Pap test. Abnormal cervical cells may resolve on their own without treatment. However, some untreated cervical cell changes can lead to cervical cancer.

I think in addition to too many H's & V's, the two always seem associated with each other.

I have HSV-2 (that's the herpes one.....). You friend can find support through www.gotherpes.com - While this is obviously focused on herpes, she (and you) can find information on HPV - as well as online (scheduled) chat support if you have questions or if she's not ready for a IRL support group. These chats are usually hosted by 1 or 2 people who have been dealing with HSV or HPV for years - not only dealing with the disease, but dealing with dating AND the disease.
And when she is ready to date, there is an affiliate site: www.mpwh.net, where she can meet others with H who are wanting to date. These are great websites for new comers to the either disease.

Shy-Girl, your friend is truely fortunate to have a friend like you.

Default HPV Link

Okay, so I figured out that the affilate link for HPV is: http://www.gothpv.net/

That makes sense...... head bang

I think if you just get to one, you'll be able to move around and find all the others you need.

Sadi - thank you for the information. I will pass along those chat sites to her. This has been a learning experience for me as well. I really didn't know too much about HPV before she shared her story with me. I was aware that it existed. But I was not as educated about it as I am now.

Again, thank you for all of the information!
