First invite to a house party.

I have been invited to my first house party next week and having no previous experience with this would like some advice.

There will be about 20 present. Three m/f couples, 8 single women and the rest single men.

1. Do people pair off at the start?

2. If a m/f couple is getting busy, how would you know as a single male to join in or move on?

These people are cool and laid back, so if something wrong might be done they would be subtle and diplomatic when dealing with it. But I would like to have some advice beforehand.

My guide has always been eye contact. Whatever else might go on, light conversation, a kiss on the cheek, a little butt squeeze -- it's the eyes that really tell. Just don't make yourself crazy thinking about it.

Is this a first time party for the rest of the group as well? Have you had any interaction or have you played with any of these people before?

Each situation is different in a small group like you have been invited to, they may have there own way to "get the party started"

So to answer your first question, it depends on the situation and the people.. You might be the newcomer to a group that has been together before and already has designs on who is going to pair off with who.. play it by ear, and go with your instincts.

As far as joining in with a pair already engaged in whatever, ask..
