This site has been free since the day it opened in 1997 and I intend to keep it that way. The ads you see throughout the site have been the primary way that this site has remained free since the beginning. Of course, I realize that some of you hate the ads. Some of you have managed to make them disappear on your own.

I've added a new way for you to help keep this site free. You will notice that there is now a "Donate" button on the top menu. Clicking it will take you to the donations page where you can make a donation of any amount you choose. In exchange for your donation, I'll give you ad-free viewing throughout the forums. Your username will also be added to the donors list, so that others can see that you are a proud supporter of this site. You may also find you get a few other perks.

It definitely shouldn't. I will look into it, I haven't seen it do that to anyone recently. It did once to someone and I refunded the shipping charge.

You are correct on all counts. Advertising used to do a lot more, but these days I rely just as much on the donations. That said, please do note the advertisers that you see and show them some love.
