New toy smell!

just got a new toy.it wasn't a cheap one but we noticed the smell wont go away . usally iv noticed if it dont make the nose happy its probly not good for ya .we looked on the toy threads and didnt find anything.its a soft ultimate rabbit.. are the materials found to be dangerous? love the toy hate the smell

We have one also and Nope nothing toxic about it my only suggestion is to wash with Hot soapy water before and after you use the toy We had that problem too Left a very I dont know Latex/condom smell on me for several hours even after showering Afer a few good washes with HOT soapy water the toy just gave up the odor and we LOVE IT

My "Diving Dolphin" did the same thing. I guess I will just have to keep washing it until it is no longer yucky smelling...

Oh man, we have the same problem with a new toy. It is made of that cyberskin stuff. great in theory, but I can't imagine letting that smell anywhere near my gentle zones. Blecch!

I'm going to try the hot soapy water thing...maybe even with lemon juice. Thanks for the tips!

Beware of the lemon juice! the acidity may damage the toy. I honestly don't know enough about the materials as to ensure it will, but I would check it before trying anything able to dramatically alter the PH.

If I were to reach that point, before that I'd try to leave the toy inmersed in soapy water for a couple of hours. Then cover it with baby pouder (sorry, I don't know the proper English term, but you get the idea), both to protect it and because it may "absorb" the odor.

Another tought come from the kitchen: one of the most effective things to get rid of odors in porous surfaces and the skin is olive oil. When you were dealing with something while cooking whose oddor stick to your hands, like onions, smear your hands with a couple of drops of oil (the most effective is olive oil). I'd try the same with the toy, altough I wouldn't let the oil in contact with the latex for too long: I'd wash it toroughly with soapy water right afterwards.

I have been studying adult toys for about three years including the materials they are made of. If your toy smells bad right out of the package put it on the headboard, put it on the mantel or put it the trash, just don’t put it in your body!
That smell is basically polymers off gassing (phthalates). A good toy will not have a smell, such as silicone.
The adult toy industry is not regulated by anyone but the manufacturers themselves. (Does anyone want the FDA to get involved?) Not to say all companies are bad, some are very good and conscientious about their products, but some are only in it for the Benjamin’s. In our household jelly toys and synthetic skin toys are gone, we threw them in the trash. There have been cases when these toys have caused medical problems and a COUPLE of manufacturers just re-packaged the products and called them something else.

The rules of thumb we use at home:
If the product is labeled “novelty” don’t put it in any orifice. (Note: Companies will put ‘novelty’ on the label to avoid litigation.)
If it smells bad don’t use it. At the very least put a condom on it.
Never use talc on toys.
Just because it costs a lot of money doesn’t mean its good.

Thanks for the advice wtxcpl. I, too, have a toy in my toybox that absolutely REEKS! Can I bring myself to throw it out? Um...no. It was a really expensive rubber dong that Mr. got for me for my birthday. It's a lot of fun, but now everything in my toybox smells like rubber. It's terrible. Besides, where the hell am I supposed throw it out? I'm afraid of putting it in the trash in case animals tear the bag apart overnight. Would make an interesting find laying on the street by our curb.

You could always leave it on the doorstep of someone you don't like!

We always use condoms on our toys. We still wash them, but feel better using them with the condom.

OMG, that reminds me of one time I tried to throw away a toy (a jelly dildo - for some reason I can't use those without a condom or they end up giving me infections). So, I threw it away and the dog got it out of the trash and made a playtoy out of it. I threw it away like 3 times and he got it out every time. I finally had to put it in a bag and walk it to the outside trash to make sure it went bye-bye forever.

Another way to deal with problems like this one, is to run a pet store in your neighborhood selling jelly dildoes between the rubber bones.
