Question about Welbutrin.

Okay, so I'm a little off the wall maybe, but here goes. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin to help stablize me. (No I'm not really crazy) Its because I had a problem with mood changes. Just ask my wife. Any way, it really works well. Just ask my wife.
So heres the deal. After I've been on it for six months things start to happen. Hey two things here: I've never been accused of doing it twice a day and surely not three; second I'm 51 years old.
For the entire month of November we were fucking like a couple of drunk teen agers. I mean morning and night and sometimes afternoon delight as well. Is there anyone out there that's been through this? Remember you don't have to have mood changes, its for quitting smoking too. My wife said the same thing happened to our daughter too, except it happened within a couple of weeks. By the way, I've leveled out to once a day but can still get it twice once in awhile.
Any comments? Let us know.

I worked for a psychiatrist and Welbutrin was frequently used to boost one's sex drive if they were having arousal/orgasm difficulties because of another psychiatric medication (usually another antidepresent). It has stimulating properties.

I went on it to quit smoking and lets say...i was like a rabbit! hubby loved it..now if our sex life starts to slow down he says...got any of those pills left..he he he ..everyone I know that has used it says it has kicked their sex drive into overdrive. I think it is a good side effect!!

I took it for a while once and it just agitated me. In fact I was so irritable, sex was the last thing I wanted (and the last thing she wanted to give me).

Seems our bodies are quite the complex soup.

HotMoCpl, I had a similar effect when taking Effexor a while back. Mr D2S was so bummed when I had to quit taking it due to nausea.

They use that to quit smoking, and I (Dave) took it for that. I kicked the habit while I was on it, but when I came off of it, I got so depressed, I pucked up a cigarette again

I tried wellbutrin for smoking cessation and I had ALL of the bad side effects possible including decreased sex drive. I had to quit it.

I'm currently taking wellbutrin as part of a smoking cessation program. haven't smoked a cigarette in two months and libido is definitely up, up, up...

Hubby was given Welbutrin by his doctor a few months ago for slight depression. We also smoke, so the doctor told him that he was giving him Welbutrin to help with smoking cessation too. (Hubby is 40 and his father died at age 45 of a heart attack, so doc is strongly encouraging hubby to quit).

After he took it for a couple of weeks, he asked me if I knew of any side effects that might cause him to have a stronger libido. It seems that several times he would awaken in the middle of the night with a raging hard-on that just wouldn't go down on its own, so he ended up having to masturbate to completion.

Unfortunately, he stopped taking it about a month ago. His depression had subsided and it had never really kicked in for the smoking cessation. So I never really got to truly enjoy that particular side effect. :rollseyes It seems that the sexual side effect ONLY occurred at the most inopportune times, namely the middle of the night ... hubby knows better than to wake me unless the house is on fire.

I'm currently taking it. I've seen my sex drive drop. We've worked to adjust my levels, and I'm ok, but just don't have the drive I used to. Thanks for the thread, I thought it was hitting 40, but seeing this thread reminded me that some folks have a reduction in desire, while others become rabbits.

I took welbutrin for smoking. It worked great, until I was on it about a month. I started breaking out in hives! Unfortunatly, I had an allergic reaction to it.

The hubby takes wellbutrin 300mg and he has the same effect as you.. im not complaining... hes 35...Im 33..Heres part of an article i just googled about wellbutrin and sexual desire.. ... interesting..... Great timing as Drew just went on this for smoking cessation. He's still on the ramp-up dose, but we can't wait til he gets to full dosage!
