| Polyamory & Swinging We realize that polyamory and swinging are two very different things, however they do often overlap. This forum is for the discussion of those overlaps between polyamory & swinging. |

I was ready to see a fluff piece for the silly season, and was pleasantly surprised to find a thoughtful, well written piece. Personally, I don't think I would ever function well in a polyamorous situation, but it's something that has always caught my fancy, especially since my teenage years after reading Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land, and later on To Sail Beyond the Sunset (though I think that that book might have carried it a bit too far). I wouldn't say that polyamory is "getting trendy", more like it's appearing on the radar of national consciousness. Poly relationships are thought to have been more common than not in pioneer situations (three or four farmsteads hundreds of miles away from other neighbors), and matriarchal societies (such as some original American Indian societies). The nuclear family seems to be a relatively recent arrangement in human history. |

I can see poly-type relationships becoming more and more common if the economy continues to decline. Among the people I work with there have been 2 tris and 1 quad develop over the last year or so. One tri is FMF where the single F graduated and can't find a job. She keeps the house and provides child care while the couple both work 24-36 hour shifts (medical field). They can now work the same shift instead of passing the kids off in the parking lot. They have often remarked how nice it is to have a "wife" to handle things while they are at work. The othe tri is MFM, similar situation, the single M was discharged from the military and needed a place to stay while he found his own place. The couple has 2 children, one less than 1, and the F lost her job. Both men work and the F gets to be a stay home mom. In the quad one couple works with me, the other male works part-time and does the guy stuff like yards and handy man, and the other F stays home with the 4 kids (combined). I have no idea what if any sexual arrangements these people have in place. MrXxotic and I both work 60-100 hours a week, we pay for a lawn service and a house keeper and hire out little projects around the house because we don't have time to do them. Sometimes I think having an extra adult in the house would make things a lot easier on us. |

Right now we are in a MFM V-triad with Mrs. WS's other partner living with us (in fact he's right here at the kitchen table on his laptop as I write this). He has been looking for work since April, and thus has been keeping house for us as well as doing the yard work and even the laundry. Mrs. works 40 hours a week and I am working 70 - 80 right now between two jobs, so he has been quite a help in the past few months. Hopefully he gets a job soon so I can cut my hours at my second job. But in the meantime our current situation has been a benefit to all of us.Mr. WS |

I agree that there are some major economic reasons why a poly household would be a much stronger one than a mono household. I have been out of work since December and I keep the place up while my wife works. I wish I could find work because unemployment doesn't go very far. It would also be good to have a third to enrich our lives as well as improve our financial situation. S |

I wound up in a polymory relationship by accident. Mrs. YZF and I did a three day weekend swap with another couple and at the end of the three days, the other guy just left his wife here. Not that I am complaining, two women in my bed every morning taking of the morning is nothing to complain about.

Trendy? No, I don't think that is the case. It's just a matter of living a different lifestyle and trying to get it accepted. Some people work hard at putting a positive light on polyamory out into the world. Vol |

| Well, by "trendy" I meant that here it is being featured in a national publication as an acceptable lifestyle rather than something weird. I think that this is a good thing.
