I wouldn't go that far, being still a 'young' swinger, we knew NOTHING about the older generation. I knew swinger = wife swapper and that was it.

The KEY was the internet. It let us explore without sticking our necks out. There is no way we would have gone to a club cold, or put an add in a swingers magazine, but we could put an add on the internet with an anonymous email and go from there.

I predict a MAJOR increase in swinging in the next 10 years, but again, it will be the internet driving it.

Although I will still say that those of us in our age group had a hand in on making it easier - I'll explain a little more in a sec - you are 100% right that the Internet made swinging take off in a huge way.
Had it not been for the easy access and, more importantly, the anonymity that the Internet offered, swinging would have continued its downward spiral that we all saw in the early- to mid-90s, when many clubs, organizations, newsletters (ours included) and other swinger related business went under.
Now I still will argue that those of us in the 35-50 range had a big hand in on keeping swinging alive and helping it grow - because it was those of us from that age group that created many of the Internet websites that were so prominent in the late-90s and into the 2000s. Those of you in the younger age groups have helped make it explode by being so much more computer savvy than many baby boomers and by, as you said, exploring the lifestyle without sticking your necks out.
I think that we all can take a bit of pride in knowing that we have all helped to some degree in keeping the lifestyle alive and kicking... as well as helping it grow and expand its age groups, whether old or young

Very well said Jerry & Liz. Although we had already swapped with friends before we really knew what swinging was, I don't think we would have ever known what the "lifestyle" was without the internet, let alone knew there was a club in a community within driving distance. Without the internet we would most likely still be waiting patiently for those rare opportunities when we were drinking with friends and things just sponaniously happened. Although we both knew we both wanted to do this, we never really discussed it in any detail before, now, thanks in a huge part from this site and the people on it, we are able to actually communicate what we want and I truly believe our relationship is stronger for it.

Man Lee, if Swingers are getting OLDER, by our results here, they must have started out pretty young! LOL

I always thought swingers were getting younger, that the whole internet and openness of swinging in general was attracting in younger people/ couples where as it had previously been something that spread more word of mouth and people didn't tend to hear about it till they were a bit older and more settled.

Out of the four places we have had this poll running this is the youngest group.

The other sites all show 41 - 45 as the largest group in the poll.

Most other polls that others are taking we have found the avg. age to be 42 years old.

We have also found that most of the hardcore players tend to be over 40.
