Am I the only one that finds it hard to "read" a person on the internet? I, for the life of me, can't "see" someone's personality by chatting with them. And my "dry" humor does not translate thru chat. It seems to take forever for me to be able to really get a feel for someone by chatting, while they just don't get my sarcastic wit. This is why I dislike internet chatting to get to know someone. Let's talk over a beer........and I'll know more in 5 minutes than a month's worth of chatting online.

Rather than hijack this thread.....I'll think start a thread on this later

This issue of Men's Health reports on an interesting study. Men and women were shown pictures of overweight and trim MOS. According to Men's Health's summary of the study, women preferred the trim man over the overweight guy, even if they were told the trim guy had an STD. Apparently the men in the study were even harder markers.

Given the high and growing proportion of North Americans who are categorized as "obese" this study seems to suggest that people rate others a bit more rigorously than they view themselves. Or, everyone in the study was a K&B?

Safest course... another set of ab crunches tonight, I think

Here is another study that was done. This one says that being heavier is not unattractive. I guess it's all in who does the study and what methods are used to get the information.

Not to bicker, but didn't you find the article a bit ambiguous, particularly toward the end?

I don't know if it really makes any difference but that article is based on a survey done by a food marketing consulting firm not an actual scientific study.

I agree, but It did explain why I'm so much more popular with the ladies when I am standing next to Mrs. GT.

That study was pretty meaningless and contradictory and the statement that perhaps the acceptance was due more to the PC nature of American than a true shift seems right on based on the other information in the article.

Not to be cliched but regardless the real issues are being happy with yourself and being healthy. If you are happy with yourself, what others think doesn't matter. Health is an obvious one but I've never seen any real data on what a 'healthy' weight is. Its easy to see that some people are an unhealthy weight, but does an extra 20lbs really make a difference?

At 6'1" 205 lbs I am ‘overweight’ by government measure (I think my ideal was 180). On the other hand I’ve had women I’ve known a long time (swinger and non-swinger) tell me I look great but to not loose anymore weight or I’ll start to look underweight. So was I unhealthy at 232 (where I was in May), am I still ‘unhealthy’ at 205, would I be more healthy at a wimpy looking 180? I’ve studied a lot of physiology and I don’t know the answer myself, nor do other medical people. We are just going by a best guess at this point. Add to it, that if you weight lift you completely screw up BMI calculations and you really have to go with your ‘gut’. No pun intended

You know - I've never thought about it, but that was when I found you strangely attractive...

Interesting...
