Size 6's Speak Out

I don't think that the link does justice to the mysterious world of the sizing of women's clothing. When I go shopping with J (usually an ambush type of situation) I learn that a Jones 6 is a DKNY 8, or is that 4?

Not only is it fluid, but I have read that there is a general size inflation going on. Apparently no-one wants to admit that they are not a 6 anymore, so the clothes makers accomodate by easing out a bit. I have heard that for some designers today's 6 is yesteryear's 10.

So, don't worry if you don't understand.... its not a totally logical system. And don't worry, if you aren't a 6 now the way things are going you will be in a couple of years. As will Star Jones.

Im a size 5-6 and no I dont talk bad about those who arent. Sometimes health problems prevent people from being that size or they may be taller...im only 5'5 and 1/2. Sometimes they are just heavier than me. Size doesnt make the person. Most of my family is alot bigger than me for some reason or another and well I dont even see a size when I am around them. I do have alot of UN-6's that talk crap about me though ....i get called skinny little bitch and other choice frases which is so annoying. I work retail so I hear it all and see it all. We play with those that are smaller, the same size, and bigger...Not really a problem with us.

Well, I'm a big gal, but one thing I have noticed is that no matter what a person looks like there is always something they are unhappy about with themselves. Kwim? Another thing I have noticed is that the women who seem perfect tend to have more self-esteem issues than those that are less than perfect. Am I making sense?

Confidence is the key, as so many have mentioned on various threads. If a person is confident, strong libido, and just exudes sexuality, well, it really doesn't matter what they look like because all you are going to see is a confident, sexual being.

my wife is a size 6, and about 6' tall. she is in incredible shape, and works hard at it. that said, i still have to reassure her that she looks great.

however, she also gets discrimination from other women. small snippy little comments, like 'you must not eat', or, 'skinny people like you', do hit hard at peoples insecurities.

i think some larger people think it is ok to make comments, seeing as they would rather have her body, but somehow, resentment bubbles up, and they end up coming out with something which is less than flattering. it is like pointing out that someone is tall, or someone is small. any body image comment needs to be delivered gently, if at all.

in short,

if you think someone looks good, tell them, YOU LOOK GOOD. be careful that your own insecurities don't incite you to stab at other people.

personally, i don't think the world would suffer any harm if people went around telling others that they looked great. maybe then we'd have less wars, fights, and more loving. today, try telling a few people they look great, and see what happens.

That is so true. I have certain designers that I like. I know I will always fit a 6 in their clothes.

I've heard that too but I'm still a 6 for many years now. I heard that Marilyn Monroe was a 10 but she weighed 140, about the same as size 6 me.

So, don't worry if you don't understand.... its not a totally logical system. And don't worry, if you aren't a 6 now the way things are going you will be in a couple of years. As will Star Jones.

Star Jones a 6? If she is going to be a 6 then what will the current size 0-6 be? We will have to add negative sizes. What will that do to the self image to say, "I'm a size -3."

Actually, no. Not metric (yet). UK sizes are different from both US and other European sizes.

We have the same problems here with different shops having different ideas of what sizes mean....

Let's see now. My wife runs between a size 7 to 10; all depending on who manufactored the clothes. I've had a few problems like that myself but manage to avoid it as I just about always wear jeans.

We both agree that what we want to see in other people is that they are staying withing reasonable shape for they're size. I don't mind doing a size 14 woman so long as she doesn't have a huge belly on her. Its difficult to have mutual respect for people who don't even make an effort to take care of themselves.

I do believe I have the right to speak here because just a year ago I was 260 pounds, plus. This morning I weighed in at 206. At least I'm no longer obese, just fat. I do plenty of work around the house and yard now and watch what and how much I eat. And a lot of attention from my wife in the sex department too. flamethrow flamethrow Yea, that means double!

I'm attracted to people I find SEXY. Sometimes they're a size 6 too, sometimes they're size 14. I like confident, sexy, fun women... not clothing sizes.

As another example of it being how you feel, I'm 4'10" and have always been proportionately sized - which puts me in sizes 0-4 (that's when they have my size at all). In my mid-20's, things were very hectic and stressful balancing school and work and life. I felt far from sexy. A co-worker at the time guessed that I was in my mid-40's He was MORTIFIED when he learned my age and kept trying to backtrack for days afterwards Now, well into my 30's, people often think I look 20-something! My weight never fluctuated by more than 5-7 lb.

Bingo, Vespertine! I can wear anywhere from a 4-8 too and most of the ladies we play with aren't. Hot women are hot women....regardless of the number on the back of the tag.
