Hey SexyShelby!! Here's a few questions for you: 1) So, you're living in Dubai -- a) what do you think of this ports deal fiasco with the US and DP world? and b) have you gotten any impressions from native Emiratis or their perspectives on it?? I'd be interested to hear, for sure! 2) What would be your ideal live music concert to go see on a warm, spring weekend? 3) What is your most memorable GOOD experience from your travels across the world? Worst? 4) And is it true that you never go back? (Once you've gone black, obviously...) -- KhorneDeth |

| 1) So, you're living in Dubai -- a) what do you think of this ports deal fiasco with the US and DP world? and b) have you gotten any impressions from native Emiratis or their perspectives on it?? I don't like to discuss politics, so I'll just say this: It was a strategic move. 2) What would be your ideal live music concert to go see on a warm, spring weekend? Shame on you, asking me this...you know I don't listen to music very much! 3) What is your most memorable GOOD experience from your travels across the world? Worst? I really can't pick just ONE memorable good experience. There are too many to choose from. However, the WORST one, I definitely know without thinking. This was many years ago when I lived in New Zealand. We took a week-long trip to Autralia and were travelling around the country, staying mostly at hostels. One hostel that we stayed at, I don't even remember where, was so nasty! It was a room with two matresses in the middle of the floor and a small bathroom attached. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months and there were bugs and cockroaches crawling everywhere. It was pretty bad. Luckily, we only stayed there for one night. 4) And is it true that you never go back? (Once you've gone black, obviously...) Actually, it's not true. This is a common misconception among black men like yourself. In reality, it's the black man who can't go back to black after he's had some kryptonite (aka white chicks). But, since it doesn't sound as cool and most men have big egos to feed, they created this saying. ![]() ~SS |

Salaam SexyShelby, Here are some easier questions, I hope. What are some things you like about living in Dubai? What of life's little comforts -- favorite food(s), tv show(s), consumer good(s) you "need", etc. -- are hard for you to find there? How fluent are you in Arabic? Did you know Arabic before you moved to Dubai? Would you recommend it as a place to visit? If you do, are there moderately-priced hotels and restaurants, or are most of the eateries and lodging expensive? Thrax |

| What are some things you like about living in Dubai? Dubai is like living everywhere all at once. It's a big city with a little bit of everything. There are people from everywhere living here (in fact the country is only 30% locals and the rest are foreigners). This results in a unique international blend of people, shops, resturants, and activities. If people want to live a laid-back, relaxed comfortable life, they can. If people want the hectic, hustle-bustle of the big city, they can have that too. There's something for everyone. The weather is great about 9 months of the year too! Of course, I also like the money and the tax-free living! ![]() What of life's little comforts -- favorite food(s), tv show(s), consumer good(s) you "need", etc. -- are hard for you to find there? My boyfriend! Ok, really...we get satellite tv, which sucks and is way too expensive. It's last year's shows and a lot of shows that didn't make it network television, so it's pretty crappy. I don't even pay for it since it's so bad, so I definitely miss tv. Due to the international influence in Dubai, you can get most major products from anywhere in the world, for a price. However, WHEN you can get them is another story. But in general, you can find just about any consumer good that you would need. Although, when I first moved to Dubai 7 years ago, it was a very different story. There was only one grocery store where you could buy Doritos and Cheetos and many other American products. But I will say that we don't have any Taco Bell. We have all the other major national fast food chains except Taco Bell. So I do miss that. How fluent are you in Arabic? Mafi Arabie. That means "no Arabic". I can greet people, I know the numbers up to 10, I can give directions to a taxi driver, and I can bargain with the shopkeepers. That's about it. Did you know Arabic before you moved to Dubai? Didn't know any and I still don't. While Arabic is the offical language of the country, everyone speaks English and all business in conducted in English. There is absolutely no need to learn or use Arabic. Yes, there are times when it would be useful, but in general it is not needed. Would you recommend it as a place to visit? If you do, are there moderately-priced hotels and restaurants, or are most of the eateries and lodging expensive? YES YES YES!!! I cannot stress this enough. Dubai is a great place to visit, just ask the millions of Europeans that come every year. It's not the cheapest place for a vacation, but it's well worth the money. And yes, there are cheap resturants and somewhat resonably priced hotels, if you know where to look and if you come in the off-season. If you want more info on Dubai, feel free to PM me, I could go on forever. ~SS |

Since I lost some days here *sigh* I wanted to get my questions in So here goes!!!How good are you at arriving on time? Why or why not? Does it bother you when other people are late? Why or why not? What's your favorite song these days? Do you wear glasses? Have you ever counted sheep to fall asleep? You would do anything for love. But you won't do that. What would "THAT" be? (Thanks Meatloaf for asking this question, LOL) And my standards.... What advice would you give newbies? Who's posts do you find yourself looking for when you look at the board? 3 members that you would like to see in the spotlight? Did you have fun this week? Jenn |

| How good are you at arriving on time? Why or why not? I'm usually on time or early if I'm alone. I hate being late and I hate when others are late, so I make an extra effort to early. A friend of mine has a theory that for each extra person you add it delays you 5 minutes. It's pretty true. Does it bother you when other people are late? Why or why not? My boyfriend is always late and he always makes us late. It drives me crazy. If people have an excuse for being late and they call, then it's somewhat ok, but it still bothers me. What's your favorite song these days? Flashdance by Deep Dish is my flavour of the week. Do you wear glasses? I have 2 pairs of prescription glasses although I do have 20/20 vision. I get bad headaches and doctors thought glasses would help. They don't so I don't wear them anymore, except when I'm trying to look the part. Have you ever counted sheep to fall asleep? In fact, I have. It didnt help though. You would do anything for love. But you won't do that. What would "THAT" be? (Thanks Meatloaf for asking this question, LOL) I wouldn't give up my Dr. Pepper! Actually, I don't drink Dr. Pepper, so I would gladly give it up. To be honest, I wouldn't comprimise my personal beliefs and goals. And my standards.... What advice would you give newbies? To communicate and take baby steps. Who's posts do you find yourself looking for when you look at the board? I look for Intuition's. I know that if she has responded with her insight, then there is no need for me to reply because I'd only be repeating her. 3 members that you would like to see in the spotlight? You know, I never saw Mrs Spoo on the hot seat. So, I think she would be my top choice. Also, Mr and Mrs Van. Did you have fun this week? Absolutely! I think this is a great idea for the board.~SS |

I'm glad to see you in the spotlight, SexyShelby. I have a thing for strong, independent women, who know where they're going and have a good idea of how to get there. You've been an asset to the board. You must have had some difficult times as a western woman living in Dubai. I've traveled in the Islamic countries and realize the challenges women face. How do you cope? How did you happen to be working there? With a vacation every three months, I'd imagine you and KhorneDeth have had some fun times. Have y'all met in Paris yet? Mr. Alura |

| I'm glad to see you in the spotlight, SexyShelby. I have a thing for strong, independent women, who know where they're going and have a good idea of how to get there. You've been an asset to the board. Well, thank you. It's been fun to have a place to openly express myself. You all think your family and friends and co-works have a hard time understanding your lifestyle choices, try doing it over here! You must have had some difficult times as a western woman living in Dubai. I've traveled in the Islamic countries and realize the challenges women face. How do you cope? Dubai is very open and western in many ways. It's nothing like living in Saudi or Iran. But, yes, there are some challenges. I get stared at a lot! And not in a good way. Men are always staring at women who aren't fully covered. But I got used to it. I dress rather conservatively (nothing too short or too much clevage except at night). I've just accepted the fact that there are some places that I would rather not go alone, especially not as a young woman. It's still safer here than New York or any other large city though. As for real challenges, it's sometimes hard to be taken seriously, both in my personal and professional lives. I work for a multinational company, so that's not the problem. The problem comes with my dealings with business partners. They are mostly men and often think I'm a push over. And when they don't like what I have to say, they ask to speak to my boss, who also happens to be a woman. But women everywhere have these challenges. I think they're just more obivous in the Middle East. But aside from that, there are some perks to being a woman in an Islamic country. I get my own teller at the bank and the line is never long. When going into an office (phone company or bank or otherwise) I get preferencial service. Less waiting around is definitely a plus. How did you happen to be working there? I got lucky. While in college in the States, I worked for the University doing research. My boss, who knew that I wanted to work overseas, heard of this company and that they have a lot of overseas positions, so she recommended me to them and them to me and it just kinda fell into place. With a vacation every three months, I'd imagine you and KhorneDeth have had some fun times. Have y'all met in Paris yet? Not yet. KhorneDeth isn't big on travelling (but i'm slowly trying to change his mind). I've only been working over here for 6 months, so the first vacation he came here and I went to the States for the second. We are talking about going to Germany sometime in the future and to Spain. But these are both a while off due to other plans/obligations. Actually, I don't like Paris. I've been there with my family and didn't like, so I wouldn't mind if we never met in Paris...athough it would be good story to tell. |

Hi SexyShelby! I have loved your posts, and I think I've gotten to know you a bit from them. You live a unique life there I'm sure, and as an adventurous type I'm a bit envious. My question is, can we come and visit? Are there places to stay, and is it reasonable? Mrs LOL |

| Hi SexyShelby! I have loved your posts, and I think I've gotten to know you a bit from them. You live a unique life there I'm sure, and as an adventurous type I'm a bit envious. Well thank you. It's been a fun and rewarding life so far. My question is, can we come and visit? Are there places to stay, and is it reasonable? YES!!! Please come visit. We'll have a Meet Up. But really, this place is a tourist Mecca! (Just not American tourists) It's the major "centre" for the Middle East region so many people living around here come on vacation. And in the past 10 years, the government has really stressed tourism as a big way of earning revenue. We get a lot of European visitors, but not so many from North America. (It's one hell of a long plane trip, so I totally understand.) But it's really worth it to come visit. And yes, there are plenty of hotels to stay at, ranging from nice to really nice to ridicously nice. But, you're looking at a minimum of $200 a night. So, its definitely not a cheap place to visit. (Then again, this depends on the time of year, in the summer it's much cheaper cuz it's too hot to be here. And also where you want to stay: the beach, the desert, or the city). So, if you can afford it (and I know I couldn't) this is a great place to visit. Well, I hope I didn't ramble too much and I hope that I actually answered your questions. Any more questions, just ask! ~SS |

| So, do you consider yourself a Single female in the lifestyle (the elusive Unicorn), are part of a swinging couple that is currently playing in VERY seperate rooms? Hmm... Interesting question. But I am definitely not single. Even though we are very far apart, there's no doubt that we know what is going on with each other. I don't feel that it's right to lead people on, so we are upfront about our status. I don't pretend to be single and neither does my boyfriend. This has probably cost me a few potential play partners, but that's ok with me. So, I guess we are a couple who plays VERY apart. ~SS |

SexyShelby - Hi again from Dubai. I think the first and last time I logged on here was a month or more ago. Thanks for your reply to my message at the time. I should pop in more often. Good to see you've created interest in Dubai. It's a wonderful city and it has my heart. I've lived in many large cities, but Dubai is one of the best. My interview question, Miss Shelby! 22 years old and with the same guy for four years (since 18 - wow!), but now living apart. You've answered someone's question how it is for you, living apart. You replied " ... It sucks". But my question is, what is it like for him as a virile young man? Are you okay with the idea of him him playing with other girls while you're not there? Must be difficult sometimes. I should add for those who are curious about Dubai - it has an active swinging scene, but must be kept quiet and private to respect local culture. Parties happening every weekend in several places. Nice mix of people from all backgrounds and races. |

Thanks for the question. I think I can speak for both of us when I say, "it sucks"! But really, it is difficult - being apart for 4 months at a time and then only together for 10 days...it's hard. All I can say is, thank god for the internet! We live on instant messenger. We both get up early in the morning to talk to each other before work, I stay up later after work so that I can talk to him. (Time zones suck!) I'm totally ok with him playing while I'm not there. After a very rocky start to our relationship, I now (finally) trust him. Currently,he's not playing with anyone, and he's really not even out looking. He was playing with a woman (and yes woman, she was a bit older than he) for a few months, and I was fine with it. We both know to tell each other about our encounters and to follow some established rules. To be honest, I was so happy for him while he was playing. It's great to know that I'm not limiting him. I don't want to cut him off from having fun just beacuse I am away. Besides, who the hell would want to go 4 months without sex??? ~SS |
