About the interviews

Swingers Board interviews are a way for us to get to know each other better. It is a way to acknowledge just how wonderfully varied a community we are.
Every Thursday, a new interview will start and the old interview will be locked.

Every SwingersBoard member is allowed to ask the amount of questions specified by the interviewee in the answers to the default questions. If they discover that they chose too high or low a limit, they may change their choice.

Try to keep this thread about the person being interviewed. If you want to comment about things you discover you have in common or just elaborate on a response, pm them and make a new friend or start a new thread about it. This is intended to be a friendly thread, so please don’t ask anything in a purposeful attempt to get a heated debate. Of course, nobody is required to answer a question that they do not want to.

The current person being interviewed will choose the next person. They need to first pm him or her and ask if he or she is interested, then pm me to let me know. It is preferred that you pick someone that you do not know very well as the purpose of this thread is to get to know new people. If for some reason, the next interviewee has not been chosen in time for the new interview, I will pick the next person. If a couple, which one primarily posts: Although we always compose our messages using the first person plural, as well as the third person singular when referring to each other individually, is it generally Greg who composes most of the text. As a couple, we feel compelled to give our opinions collectively rather than separately.
Age(s): Greg is 37; Sheryl is 49

Location: Denver, Colorado, United States of America
Relationship status: Married
Swinging for how long?: We’ve been swinging as long as we’ve been a couple, which is for about 3 ½ years. However, Sheryl’s experience in the lifestyle dates back to the early 1990’s, and Greg’s experience dates back to his college days in the mid-1980’s.
Prefer to swing with: Couples. We would also enjoy swinging with single females, but there are so few available in this lifestyle that we rarely seek them out. We wouldn’t mind occasionally swinging with single males, but their numbers are so overwhelming that we generally always reject them whenever they approach us.
Favorite food(s): Greg is a meat and potatoes guy who also enjoys a variety of seafood; Sheryl enjoys pasta, pineapple, strawberries, and kiwi.
Biggest Pet Peeve: Greg is not easily offended, but Sheryl has an extreme dislike for smoking.
Brief Intro: Our marriage is the second for Greg and the fourth for Sheryl. We met nearly a decade ago when Greg and his previous wife answered a magazine ad placed by Sheryl and her previous husband. We didn’t become a couple until after both of our previous relationships were dissolved.

Since you are the first interracial couple in the spotlight I have to ask you if you think it has had any affect on your swinging situation, good or bad?

We are probably two of the biggest sports & recreation fanatics you will ever meet. On weekends, if we are not engaging in swing-related activities, we are probably doing one of the following:

1. attending a sporting event
2. watching a sporting event on TV at home
3. watching a sporting event on TV at a local sports bar
3. working out at the gym
4. running at the park
5. cycling the Denver bike trails

We both enjoy reading, but while Sheryl reads an occasion novel, Greg reads non-fiction and periodicals almost exclusively. Sheryl also enjoys watching classic black & white movies. Greg is a bit of an internet addict, so if there isn’t a game going on and he has already finished his workout, he is probably online. Occasionally, we enjoy dancing, eating at fine restaurants, and going to first-run movie theaters.

Actually they aren't the first (Pepper & Drew, who were interviewed a couple of weeks ago, are also a mixed race couple). Good question regardless.


Have you both always lived in CO? If not, where else have you lived?

Sheryl, you were involved in a documentary about swinging with your ex-husband. What made you two decide to be involved in that? You have both said many times that you are very open about who you are, does your family know about your swinging interests?

Our experience has been quite good. Although we have read about the negative experiences of other interracial couples on this board, we can’t say that we share those experiences. Our theory is that the acceptance of interracial couples probably varies from market to market. While a market like Boston (Greg’s childhood hometown) appears to be hostile, the Denver market is very accepting. Only one couple has ever had the audacity to tell us they weren’t interested in us because Greg was black.

However, we made an interesting observation a couple of weeks ago when we sat down and listed all of the Colorado couples we know who we regard to be true friends. We came up with a list eight couples, and every single one of them was an interracial couple. Four of them were black male/white female couples; three of them were Hispanic male/white female couples; and one was a black male/Asian female couple. We guess Colorado is a Mecca for interracial couples who swing!

Do you prefer clubs, house parties or on-line ads for seeking out partners?

I hear there are some good clubs in your area, is that true? We travel around Denver about once a year and would like to check things out.

Greg was born in Boston and lived there until he was 13. Then he lived in Austin, TX from 1980 until 1991, with part of this time spent outside of Houston attending Prairie View A&M University. He moved to Denver on the eve of his 25th birthday and he has been here ever since.

Sheryl was born in Wichita, Kansas but has spent the majority of her life in Colorado. Although she eventually graduated from high school in the Denver area, she spent parts of her childhood in Ogden, UT, Salt Lake City, UT and San Jose, CA. Her father was a field representative for Coors, which resulted in her family making all of those moves. Sheryl also worked for Coors briefly after high school, then she spent parts of her adulthood Scottsbluff, NE, Phoenix, AZ and Keystone, CO before settling back in Denver in the late 1980’s.

Sheryl and her ex-husband took part in the documentary simply because they were fortunate enough to be asked. They used to travel to parties in Southern California quite frequently, and it was through those connections that they eventually met the director.

Although we have always been open about our lifestyle, Sheryl’s family is blissfully unaware of our activities. Sheryl’s mother is deceased, her father is in his 80’s, and her two siblings are already well into their 60’s (Sheryl was a late arrival). She isn’t close to any of them, and none of them even own a computer. Greg did mention his lifestyle once to his mother back in 1991 (his father is long deceased), but it hasn’t come up since then. He doesn’t believe his sister in Philadelphia is aware, at all.

We prefer house parties because of the relaxed, yet sensual atmosphere they can provide. In fact, Sheryl and her ex-husband used to host house parties on a regular basis. We would do the same, but our modest, one-bedroom condo is not conducive to parties. We also enjoy going to clubs, but those can get pretty expensive after a while. Although we haven’t attended any clubs in a few months, we still have active memberships to a pair of on-premise clubs in our area. Our recommendations are Villa Privado and the Retreat. We have a number of online ads on the web, but they don’t seem to work for us as well as they do for other couples. The only site we check on a regular basis is SLS.

What is your favorite sport/sporting events?: We both are passionate about NFL Football. Sheryl also loves ice hockey while Greg has a strong affection for women’s college basketball.
What is your (Sheryl) favorite B/W movie? Casablanca
What is/are your favorite most recent run movie (s)? We haven’t seen very many of them, lately, but we did see Spider-Man 2 this summer and loved it. Sheryl is particularly fond of action-adventure movies. No chick flicks for her!
What is your favorite kind of dance music? It’s Reggae for Sheryl. For Greg, although he listens mostly to rock at home, he feels most comfortable dancing to mainstream R&B and Hip-hop. No Techno for either of us, please.
Do you live where you can ski, if so, do you? There isn’t any skiing in Denver, but there are a number of ski resorts within a two hour drive of the city. However, Sheryl has not skied since she was in her 20’s, and Greg has never skied at all.

Did the 2 of you go full tilt into the lifestyle or was it more of a ease into it expanding what you would do as things caught your intrest?

When Sheryl and her ex-husband started swinging, they both dived in head first. It did not take them long to start attending local clubs, and they soon began to make regular trips to the Lifestyles Convention and to Hedonism II. For Greg, the road to where he is now took a bit longer. He and college girlfriend never got past the MFM stage, although a subsequent girlfriend allowed Greg to experience a full swap for the first time. He and his first wife experienced several MFMs, played with two other couples and even appeared in some commercially-released amateur videos, but he was never able to get her to a swing club or a house party. After he and his wife separated in the late 1990’s (the divorce didn’t become final until 2002), he began to attend clubs and parties with various open-minded women he dated. By the time we became a couple, Greg was a lifestyle veteran. Still, it was Sheryl that took Greg to his first swing convention.

Did the spark fly between the two of you when you met when you were married? Could you tell in the beginning you two had something special together?

So do you feel like you've done it all or are there still some things you'd like to experience? (in the lifestyle or in the vanilla world as well.)

How often do you swing? Is this something occasional or are you out every weekend having a good time with others?
