When our older son, sitting in his high chair, spilled his milk and shouted, "Oh, fuck!" Mrs. Alura and I decided we had to reject our many years in the motorcycle business and clean up our language. It was not easy! Are y'all finding it difficult, too?

You have no idea

At one point my son, when he was a little bit younger, ran around the house saying "Shit" and laughing like it was the funniest thing he had ever said.

I found it more funny than anything, however I knew we had to try to control ourselves. I think Hubby dear has the hardest time, he just forgets and says things once and a while. He claims that it's hard to retrain him because he has reached 40 and at that point you can't undo it, your brain cells have soaked it all in and you can't wring them out. (not for lack of my trying... )

OK, OK...I get the point! I ask one little ignorant question about the weather up there, and she then manages to work something about the "beautiful" climate into almost every post! Landscaping? When? In the 30-40 minutes of summertime ya'll have? Man! Talk about seasonal work! Then this...
Quote:
camping, trail walking, visiting relatives and friends. Gardening, going to the beach.
Take note...almost everything...outdoor stuff! And by the way, while I'm on the subject, can you talk to your Canadian friends about these cold fronts that are moving into Texas in August from Canada? 85º in Texas in August! Geez! Like I don't have enough to deal with November through March!

OK, now seriously, when I looked at that website on Nova Scotia, it looked like really beautiful country (when you can see it under the snow :rollseyes ).

Do ya'll have particular types of foods that are indigenous to the area? (for example, we have Tex-Mex down here). If so, what types of food?
Also, down here we have fast food restaurants within arms reach every place you go. What about up there? Many or few? (Can you tell this is almost like visiting a foreign country to me! )

Do you speak other languages besides English?

Do ya'll drink Coke up there? What about iced tea? (very important to know in case I decide to visit the area [in the summer time])

Do you plan on adding any more little "Evils" to the family unit?

Default Re: Spotlight Interview #20 - EvilMJ

oh the wounds!! Pull out the knife EBF!!

And here I thought you missed my little attempt at sneaking all the beautiful country side in...and I'll have you know we get a whole week of summer!!
I'll see what I can do about the cold fronts if you guys could keep your darned hurricanes down there...man Juan knocked the Bejesus out of us...a lot of us had no power and no phone for a week!!

Indigenous food..tons. I live near the ocean so it is seafood as far as the eye can see. Salmon, chowder, lobster, fish cakes, you name it. Every town seems to have their own tradition, we have a lot of differnt cultures up here, german, french, scottish...eek. melting pot is overflowing. My dad's mom is french acadian and his dad was scottish/english. My mom is english decent. We have a lot of blueberry dishes too, oh and Maple syrup and any Maple related dessert is big here.

Yes we have a lot of fast food up here, pretty much exactly the same as down in the US. The only thing we have that you don't is Tim Horton's. Not only a coffee shop but a place to meet, hang out, exchange gossip. You can't walk five minutes without tripping over one. Also Halifax (which I live near) is famous for having more bars per capita than anyother place in the world. Yes friends that's bragging rights for you, come to Halifax and we will get you soo drunk you won't know where you are. A pub crawl has a literal meaning here, honestly you can't walk a foot without walking into a bar, pub, club, tavern. (I think it is due to the fact that we have a ton of Universities in the city and the port brings in a lot of sailors!!)

My french is a little rusty, I haven't used it in a while (I can swear like a sailor in two languages). My sister is still bilingual. My grandmother was fully french Canadian.

Yes we have Coke and Pepsi. They have taken over the country. I have a horrible addiction to diet pepsi....they own me now. And yes we have ice tea. I don't think there are any drinks up here that are different from down there, as far as I can tell. The couple of times I visited down in the states I noticed very litte difference. Now personally I like to lounge in on the back deck with a bucket of Margaritas.

MORE EVILS....*passes out*
Ummm no. Unfortunately when the little guy was a baby he was quite sick. He never slept more than 1 hour at a time (literally!! I am not embellishing this at all). So somewhere in my overstressed, sleep deprived state while I was driving all over hell and creation trying to get him to sleep I promised myself I would not go through it again. It was very stressful on my health and on our marriage. Now that he is three we have finally started to act like the very much in love couple we were in the beginning. THings are much better, but I don't want to take the chance that a second child coudl be equally as sick or worse.

Great to hear some Northern speak! I grew up in Maine and lived there most of my life until Mike and I moved here to Florida 2 years ago.

So Nova Scotia really gets that much snow??? Wow! Who woulda thunk! haha..

So Nova Scotians do not speak french as their main language? Or was I wrong in getting that from your last response?

I grew up with Canadian parents who settled in Maine as children. I spoke just french until oh around the age of 8 and one of my older brothers (I have 7 of the fuckers and 3 sisters) married what my mother labeled a "Yank" (I think she was being a bit derogative). Once english hit our house I refused to speak french any more to my mother's angst. I can understand it just fine and read it just fine, but speaking it is beyond me except for all the bad words... Like you I had no trouble to remember those!

Did you ever speak french as a child?

You talk about the beauty of Nova Scotia... I looked it up online and from the pictures it seems very pretty. Can you describe it a little more? Like are there mountains, lakes, streams... or is the ocean your only true large body of water?

Also what types of industry are there?

These are just a few of the questions rolling around in my head... I have more, but thought I would keep a few for another post... haha

Yes, there needs to be some more of us Northerners around..honestly we are a lot of fun . If it wasn't for the hurricanes I would join you down there.

Ugh...snow, did I mention that we get a lot of it. I remember watching a newscast from the states and they were freaking out over a light snowfall, schools closed people off the road. I couldn't stop laughing.. That's not snow!! I'm used to some pretty heavy snow falls. Not all the time though, don't get me wrong, it doesn't snow every day or anything.

yes, only down in the french shore are they a mainly french community (Acadia). My dad is from that area, they are all french Canadian down there. But otherwise we mostly speak english as a main language (with a smattering of redneck depending on your location)

That's cool. I have family in Maine as well. How did you live with all those brothers..I thought I had it bad with one psychopathic sister!! Funny how all the bad words seem to stick with us. Everytime I hook up with some french friends, they teach me some new onews.

Did you ever speak french as a child?
Not until I went to school. It's mandatory there. My dad spoke french when he was a child, however he lost it later on in life. I took french right up into University.

Nova Scotia (I hope the toursim people are watching this and offer me a job!!) - I live by the ocean, but grew up in the country. Our highschool was surrounded by farms, and let me tell you the smell in the summer was fragrant to say the least. My best friend rasied horses, so I spent a lot of my time in barns (don't know if that is something I should be proud of).
We have lots of lakes, in fact our sister city Dartmout is called the city of lakes.
We also have some nice mountains, we offer some good skiing in the winter, and ofcourse the valley is absolutely gorgeous, they have warmer weather than we do up here at the coast, so that is where all the fruit and veggies come from. There are lots of coastal communities (I guess that comes from being surrounded by water!!), each one is unique and worth the visit, although I learned from experiance that they all have their own way of speaking and sometimes it's hard to understand the locals!!
I have a lot of people tell me (that come from large cities) that they like the Halifax area because it offers everything the larger cities have only on a smaller scale and it is very nice.

Quote:

What besides snow..he he. We have the biggest sea port in the country, gets us lots of sailors and cruise ships. Fishing is a big one, salmon and Tuna, lobster - we ship a lot over to Japan. Farming, timber, (oh why didn't I pay attention in geography!) proud makers of foam lizards on a stick! Maple syrup, apples...hmm I am drawing a blank..I will have to think about it. We have tons of Universities.

Mephisto,

Nice picture by the way.

It's hard to imagine two Gemini's together, but for us it seems to work. We keep each other laughing all the time and as we both like to try new things I don't have to worry about him not wanting to hop on the bandwagon.

How do we keep if fresh... well we tried swinging. he he..that really brought us closer together. We make it a point never to take each other forgranted and do the little things to make each other happy. He calls me at work just to say hi and tell me a joke. I call him to talk dirty
Honestly, we just celebrated our fifth anniversary and we have never once thought about calling it quits (althought there have been times when he was snoring that I contimplated smothering him, but that is it). I need a man who is up to some verbal sparring and can take it as good as he gets it.....I am the queen of smart remarks and some guys don't like that and take it personally. Not my hubby...he just throws one right back at me.

The snow...man how depressing!! one would think with my husband driving a snow plow that I would be freed from my snowy tomb, but no, he left one morning and I did not see him again for days!! They had to stay in hotels as all the roads were too bad to travel for quite some time. I had to stay trapped at home for around four days with a three year old going stir crazy.
I took him outside, dug a little snowy playpen and handed him a shovel, kept him busy for hours while I tried to find the car (I am not kidding when I say the car was buried, I could only see the top of it). When Mr. Evil finally got home, he got stuck trying to plow us out, he had to wait until they brought in the really big plows from New Brunswick. I never want to see that again

Default Re: Spotlight Interview #20 - EvilMJ

Hi DandS,

Pets - I have a very, very, very big cat. He weighs about 25 lbs, he is on a diet right now, and at night I can here him muttering obsecenties outside my bedroom.

Music-- The only music I don't like it country..makes my teeth hurt...*shudder*. I love everything else, dance, hip hop, swing, rock..the list goes on.

Favorite Author- that is a toughie as I read a lot!! I like any serial killer type book, JEffery Deaver, Tami Hoag, Grisham..Steven King, Clive Barker. True Crime....mmmmm, I can't pin point one. My mother reads as much as I do so we just continually trade books back and forth.
I am also forced to read a multitude of children's books thanks to my son, so if anyone feels the need to hear a recital of Dr. Suess, just give me a call.

Vacation - I think I would like to go somewhere tropical, the opposite of where I am now. Lay on a beach...tended to by some young well oiled cabana boy... . I have also wanted to see Austraila just to see the weird creatures.

TV - My husbans is yelling across the room that I am a definate reality TV jukie. So right now I watch, Big Brother, AMazing race, Canadian Idol and soon..Survior. Otherwise I like Andromea, farscape (when it was on), Trading SPaces and Queer Eye for the Straigh Guy..oh and CSI. However I really don't have a lot of time for TV so between the VCR and missing a lot of episodes I do what I can.

Favorite Movie - XMEN...I have had a crush on wolverine since puberty. He is my ideal man...and wasn't I thrilled to have Hugh Jackman play him!! I also love the ALIEN series. (I'm not very deep am I :rollseyes )

Pet Peeves - well there is the Irregardless thing. WHen my husband takes out the garbage he forgets to put the bag back in and gets the hairy eyeball of death!! I hate waiters/waitresses who don't give good service, I am a great tipper and love people who seem interested in their job and like what they do. One size fits all pantyhose---who are they kidding, they never make it past my knees..who are they making them for Smurfs??

Favorite Colour- toss up between red and black

Favorite dessert -- oh come on, is there a bad dessert??? cheezecake is up there, apple crisp, CHOCOLATE CAKE!! nummy

Default Re: Spotlight Interview #20 - EvilMJ

Too bad Evil! Julie hasn't limited my post - yet...and I'm going to get in a bunch of stuff!

1. What one single thing in the world do you wish and hope for - the very, very most - for your little Evil MJ?

2. When he is the appropriate age (whatever age you think is appropriate) will you tell him about your lifestyle involvement and/or if he discovers it on his own, how will you handle it?

Default Re: Spotlight Interview #20 - EvilMJ

EBF-- you don't scare me....yet....

1. The one thing that I hope for my little guy is that he has same opportunities that I have had. A loving family that supports him no matter what the situation, happiness above all else and a chance to live life to the fullest. I have always been the type of person that doesn't actively go out looking for bizzare and strange situations, yet they always seem to find me. I am constantly thinking "how did I get here." I hope my son will be able to be that fortunate to see all the fun and craziness that life has to offer without any of the fear or stigma that the "normal" world seems to attach to it. I don't look back on any of my actions with regret and if he can say the same then I can feel true happiness as a mother.

2. ohhhhhh.....that's a good one....I'm not sure I will ever be ready to tell my son anything about my sex life. I'm still traumatized over the fact that my parents still have sex... . I can tell you this though, if he ever does ask me I will be very open and honest with him. I don't think anything will be gain through lying to him. He is the most important thing in my life and I will do all I can to protect him and keep this from him, but at the same time if he does ask I want him to understand everyone has the right to live their lives the way they see fit and it is important to be able to be accepting of people even if you don't agree with their actions at all times. The last thing I want is for him to go through life with a closed mind, he will miss so many amazing opportunities and experiances. He may as well live with his eyes closed and his heart hidden. I don't want him to be ashamed of us, in this lifestyle communication is the most important tool to making things work, I think this is also important when it comes to your children. You have to be able to speak to them and communicate your feelings and actions and encourage them to do the same.

*whew* That was deep.... I'm feeling a little emotional right now...excuse me while I go compose myself.....
