OK...so it isn't just me, is it?

Quote:
If you saw a leaf that you THOUGHT was a bug and it was floating towards you and there was no one to help you... would you freak and try to kill it?
Depends. If I, for some reason, THOUGHT it was one of those big huge roaches or a big huge spider, I wouldn't be in the water long enough to think about killing it. Have you ever seen anyone "run" on water. It would be a first for you, I'm sure, but I bet I could do it! Now a little plain ol' bug...I just push them away. We get lots of little bugs in the pool water here - wasps, june bugs, etc., but they don't scare me.

There is a spider in my room, will you kill it for me?
Nope. Each man for himself! However, if you are nice, I will FedEx you a can of my Raid Wasp and Hornet Killer that shoots 20 feet.

Well, I don't think you would. I don't know why - except that I write too much and the Internet gods would probably tell you to get rid of me because I took up too many of those bands. In fact, I'm just waiting for my days in the "Spotlight" to be cut short anyway...because I write too much.

I have a feeling that you talk your way into and out of things quite often. The story that comes to my mind off the top of my head is one where you were at the grocery store "helping" them by watching a place where a busted bottle of something was on the floor. You then proceeded to talk your way into a free package of rolos that you felt you earned via your helping. Does this happen as often as I think it does?

I'm thinking you may already hold the record for most posts in a Spotlight Interview thread. You are obviously a very popular lady. How does it make you feel to be so interesting?

Well, as previously stated, I'm an Air Force brat. Daddy was stationed in Montgomery (correctly pronounced Mungumry) just before the 8th grade and my family still resides there. Parents were divorced later, but we stayed. I moved to Atlanta when I was about 21 or so - maybe 22.

No set schedule, unfortunately. So much of what I've done for the past few years hasn't allowed me any sort of "set" schedule. When I'm busy, I'm incredibly busy - which is what I greatly prefer. I do my best work under pressure. When I'm not real busy, I tend to lolly-gag around. When I'm busy, I generally start about 5 - 5:30 AM and sometimes work through until 9 or so at night with just periodic breaks here and there - and dog walks.

Yes! Thank goodness! That entire thing was traumatizing! But since I learned that thing about ajudication, now...when I get a ticket, I just go down there and ask for it.

I did earn those Rolo's. I stood there for a long time watching that spot so that nobody would fall and sue the store. As for talking my way into and out of things...I'm not sure. If I believe in something - one way or the other - I'll present my "evidence" and take it from there. I just asked WR if she thought I did this. Here is her direct quote: "There are many instances where you will come out the winner simply because you are willing to stand there longer in your stubborn determination longer than someone is willing to stand there and fight you. Not only do you usually make your point, but you get something extra out of it to boot." Hmmm....my take is that I usually just tell people what I want - like those Rolo's. I simply told the clerk...I'm not paying for these Rolo's because I've spent half my night in here...yada, yada...and call Mr. So-in-so if you have a problem with that. She didn't have a problem. $0.44

Popular, huh? Well, thank you very much for that compliment, though I don't feel particularly "popular," nor do I find myself to be particularly interesting. I think most of us are just as interesting if we spend some time looking around us and being aware of our own life events. There are so many funny things that happen to us on a daily basis, but we tend to be so very serious about everything - ignoring the humor in so many situations. As an example, and WR will probably shoot me...one day we went up to the store to pick up my prescription. We had spent most of the day together (and as you know she talks alot ). Well, that particular day, she had gotten on my last nerve (we alternate days for that - we are now on a schedule) because she just would not shut up. As we approached the window to get the prescription, she said something really smart assy to me which prompted some less than admirable behavior on my part. Instead of telling her to just shut up and quit getting on my last nerve, before she could move...I swung around and kissed her!!!! Just a quick little peck but man-a-live...you should have seen her expression. The one and only time I've ever made her totally speechless. Stunned beyond belief? However, we ended up spending 30 minutes there talking to all the pharmacists, the other people in line...threatening everybody with kisses. Such a simple and silly thing...but we had so much fun that day, and so did others. To this day, when I go to the pharmacy, they always ask about WR.

Hmmm...WR calls me a weeble all the time, but I didn't know what it was and was afraid of the answer!

I had a teddy bear that I dearly loved. Teddy was his name. Also, I had a beautiful playhouse my daddy built for me - with real curtains and little glass dishes, etc. I would entertain my parents for "tea" every afternoon.

I don't know that I have any adult toys (adult rated or otherwise). I do enjoy doing the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles sometimes. Would that be considered a toy? I used to have a ski boat, but I sold that several years back. I was an avid slalom water skier for years and skiied competitively for a while (local), but then I gave it up - afraid I'd kill myself. I've enjoyed riding motorcycles on occasion with my head safely ensconced in a helmet. I still have the helmet, but not the motorcycle driver. If funds allowed, which they never will, I would purchase a lake home and another boat, but I'd just ride in the boat. Well...maybe I'd try skiing again. Wonder if I could find another Little Monster? - EBF

Just English. I was able to speak quite a bit of Japanese as a child. You know how little ones pick up languages. Later, I took French in high school...right. French with that heavy Southern accent. That was a joke. A few years ago, I signed up for some Spanish courses at a local community center...10 week course. Failed! Took it again the next 10 week period. Failed! Signed up a third time. Now all of this was with the same instructor, keep in mind. I never got off of page 2 of that infernal book! Finally, after 30 weeks of saying everything wrong, he suggested I might want to try a different course. Quite rude, I thought. In the meantime, the maintenance man is Mexican and I still study my book (page 4 now) and I chase him down all over the place...how do you say this? Pronounce this? Wait! Say it slower. I need to watch your lips! My Spanish book is 487 pages, so I figure in this life time...- EBF

To my friend, EBF -

I'm feeling bad. No one seems to have anything else to ask you and I know you are just sitting there full of answers - just waiting!

To allow you vent and maybe stir up questions from others, I figured I'd better come up with something to ask you or I was going to be the beneficiary of all those answers you have stored up and waiting!

You have mentioned your grandpa. I have enjoyed stories about him so much that he is in my TOP 10 list when I get to heaven (huge assumption on my part). One of my favorite stories is a trip you and your grandpa took to Mexico. Any other adventures you'd care to share that are particularly favorite memories of yours? What about your grandmother? I know stories about her, too. Stories I know you are proud of and wouldn't mind sharing.

Knowing you as well as I do, I am curious what it would have been like to know you as a child and as an adolescent and whether we would have been friends even then. What were you like as the oldest in the family? Were you like me? Full of mischief and crazy ideas that led your siblings astray? What was the one thing you got into the most trouble for as a child? As an adolescent? How did you try to explain your way out of things?

When do you first remember becoming aware of your own sexual nature? (I could ask this more graphically, but out of respect for you [and fear for myself ] I'm imitating lady-like behavior in not doing that.

If you were Queen of the Universe for just one day and could gift all of the world with just one thing, physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, tangible or intangible, what would it be?

Most of us, despite our protest otherwise, acknowledge we have at least one serious "flaw." What's yours? I don't mean the one that makes you interesting or is kind of cute, but one that you would seriously do away with if you had the power.

Outside of family members, who is the one person that you feel has most contributed to or impacted the person you are today?

That's all for now!

WR

I know...I guess I bored them. And...I write so much, they're afraid to ask me anything! Ahhhh....but not you. These deep questions...

My life with my grandpop was an adventure in and of itself. He lived with me off and on after my husband died. He'd come for "two weeks, sugar" and still be there 6 months later. Then home for a few months...and back. We traveled all over the Southern part of the US...with one of those old styrofoam coolers in the back seat - squeaking every inch of the way because he was too cheap to stop for snacks. But even though he was a cheapskate, he would buy me anything I "needed" - as in washer and dryer, car, school books, "sensible" shoes. Story: I had just bought my first house, trying to build a pot rack over the bar. I was taking Algebra and was insistent on figuring out the stud placement via some algebraic equation. He kept telling me to just poke a skinny nail in the ceiling. Nope. Algebra. Finally, in total exasperation, and I quote, "Goddammit, sugar! Do it the way I said!" I had never heard him use profanity. His way worked. I cried for a week. "You said something ugly to me. "
Grandmother: a force in her own right. 50 years ahead of her time. A women's libber before the phrase was even thought of. Owned her own construction business. In the 50's if you can imagine. Brilliant. A huge Civil Rights worker - to the extent of receiving a personal invitation to Johnson's inauguration. Won a very prestigious award for a speech she gave. Independent. Political activist.

As the oldest? I terrorized the others, of course. Picked constantly, pick, pick, pick. Example: supposed to be babysitting for younger sister, she ran into walk-in pantry, I slammed door, made sound like I was locking it (but I didn't), and walked away - forgot about her. She stayed in there the entire day - opened cans of fruit and ate them. Mom came home. Oops!
Trouble as a child? Hmmm...the biggest thing I recall...I pushed this obnoxious little girl that was visiting with her Mom. She made a scene. My mom tried to make me say I was sorry. I wasn't sorry and would not sya it. I kept saying I did it on purpose. Ummmm...bad move. My mom half beat me to death trying to make me say I was sorry. I never said. Not to this day. I wasn't sorry. Getting in trouble as a child? Constantly, but most of it had to do with stubborness. That carried over to the adolescent years, too.

I've sat here and thought about this and honestly can't recall a point in time. Junior high age? Or even younger when we played spin-the-bottle? Is there a point in time? Or is it more of an evolution?

Kindness. Simple kindness

Left to my own devices and without outside influence, I sometimes take certain life situations too seriously and probably miss out on some fun as a result.

Quote:

10th grade English teacher. She was the epitome of an educator. She was the Dr. Welby of the teaching profession. I honestly believe I would have become a high school drop-out without her influence.

OK, WR....now a question for you? Do you know any simple questions? As in...what time is it? What day is it? And where are you?

Nice job of wiggle by, dodge ball, slide through and never look anyone in the eye!!
Good thing I kind of liked that lady-like way of asking because I assure you I could ask this question in such a blatantly straightforward manner [graphically] that there is NO way even the artful dodger could miss the point.

I'm gonna let you by with it ... but just this once.
