TV and nudity, a rant.

What the fuck is wrong with American culture? We can watch men, women, and children butchered in various vile manners, watch seemingly endless parades of programs about serial killers, vampires, and other creatures. But the slightest shot of a nude breast or bum is offensive? To who? Is our society so repressed that we act more like the Inquisition, than the freedom-loving people we are supposed to be? The nude body is taboo , but a dismembered one isn't? WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!! Ok..... rant over.

Violence has been proven to sell pretty well, and has a better lobbying crowd than nudity does.

Also there is the aspect that violence can be attributed to "evil" and as such can be shown and said "see this is evil".

Meanwhile you are looking for nudity to be put in a good light, which is a tough cookie since it's attached to sex, which is typically cast in a bad light.

My job requires me to go visit families at their homes periodically. Yesterday I was at the home of a gaggle kids aged 10 - 16. They were watching Dexter.

Now, I love Dexter, but seriously, Dexter?!?!? WTF?!? Makes absolutely no sense. Don't blame me if the little buggers grow up to emulate Dex.

Could not agree more. The human body is beautiful and natural. Violence against it is neither.

I see the same thing, all of the time. Kids being "babysat", by the TV with no control over what they are watching. But with all of the violence on American TV what can they watch instead? I would like to see a channel devoted to the beauty and sanctity of the human body, but , alas, I don't think it will happen.

Yeah. This country definitely has its puritanical roots. I too think it's an unhealthy cultural view.

LustyLearning you hit the nail on the head. We are still operating in the 18th century with our thinking of nudity. There is noting more beautiful then the human nude body. If it was improper the almight maker, would have clothed us in feathers, or another form to discusie the beautiful form.

Yeah, I like the bodies on True Blood, too, and Vader knows they're all beautiful, but if they weren't splattered with blood half the time, the show would've been cancelled years ago.
