Multiple Sex Partners & IUD

I'm seriously considering getting the Mirena placed but hesitate because of the multiple sex partner warning. Apparently your risk for pelvic inflammatory disease is increased, if only slightly, if using an IUD and you have sex with more than one person. So I'm looking for feedback from women who have or used to have the Mirena or other IUD who also swing--any problems, concerns? Did you discuss the risks with your gyno before having it placed? I'd rather not disclose that aspect of my marriage to my dr. I did once to a previous dr and prefer not to discuss it again.

no one here has used an IUD?????? or considered getting one but ultimately chose not to????

One of the gals I'm playing with is currently using an IUD ... but I'm the only fella she's having sex with. I don't know enough about the medical risks or problems which might be associated with this to give much more than that.

I had an IUD before and it was expressed to me that it was very important that I was in a monogamous relationship (I was at the time). I was told if I was no longer monogamous that the benefits didn't outweigh the risks and I should have it pulled. I had it for two years and then had it pulled for that reason. At the time it had a string that came through the cervix, I had to make sure that string was in place once a month. That string was a direct line into the uterus increasing the risk of infection therefore increasing the risk of PID. It wasn't worth that risk to me.
