Penis size, as measured by medical folk

There doesn't seem to be much objective data about male size, so I did some research around 2003 and found some interesting data.

First, the numbers found by nurses measuring college males on spring break on behalf of a condom company:

A study by Lifestyles Condom Co. shows that the average length of a male sex organ is 5.877 inches — which might comfort men who previously thought they were less than average.

"The Kinsey Sex Report and other penis size surveys have indicated that the length of the penis is 6.2 to 6.4 inches," says Simon Joseph, a spokesman for Lifestyles. "Our results show that about three-quarters of men fall under the average quoted by Kinsey."

"A half-inch or less might not have anything to do with how you perform sexually, but it might make a difference in how you feel about yourself."

According to the survey, about two-thirds of the 300 college-aged men ranged from between 5.1 and 6.2 inches.

According to the study, the average erect penis had a girth of 4.972 inches. About 75 percent of men were between 4.5 and 5.5 inches.

"We already have a larger condom," says Carrozza. "What our research shows is that 17 percent of erections measured under 4.5 inches (editor's note: 4.5 inches girth), and there might be a market for that."

4.972 inches around is 1.58" in diameter or 1 4/7" or 4.0 cm.
4.5 inches around is 1.43" in diameter or 1 3/7" or 3.6 cm.

It concludes...

It is fair to say that in all cases, where medical staff has measured erect penis size, the average length has been below 6 inches and in every case where the surveys rely on self-measurement and voluntary reporting the average leaps over six inches. Interestingly average girth remains around 5 inches in all surveys.

Using the figure of 5.877 inches from the LifeStyles Condoms Average Penis Size Survey it appears that men on average exaggerate their penis length by a quarter to a half an inch when they are permitted to measure and report their own size.

The results do show that the difference between small penises, average penis size and large penises is not so great as folklore might have us believe.

Taking figures from the graphs (SWAG with a ruler),

• 6&#37; are < 5" (114 mm)
• 20% are 5 1/4" or 5 1/2" (133/140 mm)
• 48% are 5 3/4" or 6" (146/152 mm)
• 22% are 6 1/4" to 7" (159/178 mm)
• 4% are > 7" (178 cm) long.

Taking girths (distance around) from the graph (SWAG with a ruler),

• 14% are < 4" (102 mm)
• 23% are between 4" and 4 1/2" (108/114 mm)
• 36% are between 4 1/2" and 5" (114/127 mm)
• 19% are between 5" and 5 1/2" (127/140 mm)
• 7% are between 5 1/2" and 6" (140/152 mm)
• 1% are > 6" (152 mm) girth.

Or as diameter (divide the above by pi=3.1416),

• 14% are < 1 1/4" (32mm)
• 23% are 1 1/3" (36mm)
• 36% are 1 1/2" (32mm)
• 19% are 1 2/3" (36mm)
• 7% are 1 5/8" (46mm)
• 1% are > 2" (50 mm) diameter.

I was sitting here thinking about Kinsey and his studies. His book on male sexuality was published in 1948. In the years he gathered his data, I am curious about one thing. Were farmers, ranchers and the like, using steroids to "beef" up the herds? did chicken farmers double the size of the bird with steroids as they do now?

As studies have shown the adverse affects of steroids upon the male genitalia, I am forced to ponder the effects of 60+ years of the compounds on the male penis. We see cases of female children with full Breasts at very early ages in countries where steroid use is not kept in check. The milk from the affected cows is replete with the drug.

Would one be wrong in drawing a correlation between the longer penis observations of Kinsey and his team to the shrinkage and the involuntary use of steroids within the world today?

MAN! I could be working int he porn industry if my parents had not fed me so much processed meats!! ACK! another career possibility killed by my parents and their bad choices! SIGH!

Interesting documentation but nothing on how these measurements were made. It would seem that if one were going to go to this extent to document penis size that the means to arrive at the meaurement would also have been documented for future reference and repeatablity.

Given that 25% couldn't get it up to be measured, I think the researchers might consider the entire methodology
