You may want to consider low dose testosterone for her. In the right dose it often significantly raises libido, sometimes to the point that it is described as "an adverse side effect." The Aphrodite web site says that "some women find that testosterone treatment induces an unwelcome rise in sexual fantasies, masturbation and sex drive. In which case an increased sex drive becomes an adverse side-effect of androgen therapy." Anyone?

Your topic caught my eye immediately so I had to post!

What you are experiencing is not as extreme as it was for my wife....but we figured out it might be the birth control pills Yaz she was taking and they were causing severe depression and mood swings. She stopped taking them a month ago and things got much better! After a 5 month break while on the pill we just decided to go out to a few parties and had a great time again.

I have soooooo been there, and it was NOT fun! I too, discovered that birth control pills killed my libido. Since Mr. Sweet and I were sure we didn't want any more kids, our solution was simple. Mr. Sweet had a vasectomy. Of course we still use condoms with playmates, and I've since had my tubes tied (just in case).

If a permanent method is not for you, you can try other forms of birth control (nuvaring or the patch), but it may well be that it's the hormones from these that are causing her issues.

Good luck!

=)

Wow! What a bell ringer for me. When my wife went on the pill many years ago, her libido went away (very far away) and hasn't found it's way home yet. Her attitude was the same in that she didn't react to anything sexual and what's more didn't care. That condition and attitude prevailed for as many years as it took for all our kids to leave the nest. She had such a difficult time while she was perimenopausal, that she visited a medical doctor who is also a naturopath. He began to administer bio identical hormones. The practice of hormone replacement therapy is still, imho, at best experimental, in that no two women react the same to the identical treatment. That said, it has had some positive effect. We are both retired now. Over the years, we have missed and continue to miss "opportunities" because, of hormonal reactions to a birth control method that simply wasn't the right one. We have to remember also that thirty years ago, women's health concerns were not treated in the same manner as today.
Go see her obgyn, have her hormone levels monitored, talk to a counsellor..... what ever this is, it is reducing her enjoyment of life. We laugh about the frailty of life because we don't want to acknowledge it but, it's true life is a one way trip and nobody gets out alive I often wish that I had explored the possibilities a long time ago.
I'm sorry that I didn't write that in a more up beat manner but, that 's my two cent's worth anyway.

We appreciate the input and ideas from all of you. It eases Tina's mind that she is not alone in having this problem, but nothing yet has corrected the libido problem. We swing from time to time and it seems to stimulate her libido a bit. Don't think it is the relationship, as we have never really had any problems between us and are probably closer now than before. So, we are still slowly working at trying to find how to reverse the problem.

Has she had a full hormonal and endocrine checkup? Sometimes it may be the hormones, but sometimes it can be some other imbalance, such as with pancreatic insulin or a light hyperthyroidism.

Some people here said that Yaz, or other method thats make you skip your periods could probably cause it. Well, Mrs. W used a subdermal implant for about four years which completely stopped her periods, and she had no such problems.

On the other hand, we just found out a few months ago that she does have a problem with her insulin, which might have elevated her sex drive. Now she's on a prescription to control that, and we've been told that it will probably throttle back her sex drive .

We're not really sure it has gone one way or another, but since we've been in different countries for a few months, and going through a stressful situation, we really haven't had a chance to be sure. We hope things go back to normal soon and find that her sex drive is still up there.
