Default Loss of sex drive

Seeing the poll on the DEPO shot makes me want to ask this question. How many of the women here have ever pretty much lost their sex drive completely? Bunny has gone from being a raging sex animal last winter to barely wanting it weekly or bi weekly. Yes we have been through alot of stress and hardship this past year, but we have had stress before and it has never happened to this extent before. So any suggestions would be helpfull as She has a doctors appt in two weeks and we would like to be able to suggest things.

If the obvious medical conditions are ruled out (anemia, diabetes, thyroid, etc.), consider a Chinese medicine specialist (acupuncture). I went this route, and everything is back in sync.

I had this happen and we were stumped. Hormone levels checked out fine however that was the female hormone...Thank goodness my ob/gyn doctor ran additional tests and found out that my male hormone testostrone was low. Heck, I didnt even know that was a factor in females.

I have done some research on the med I am on and it has a mixed reaction with some docs however alot of them use it. Most insurance will not cover it however its a small price to pay.
I take a medicine called Estratest which is basically just estrogen and testostrone. He did tell me about a cream that was testostrone only however this is a more controlled level.

Well, within 4 to 5 days there was a huge difference. Not sure if that could be something that might affect your wife but I never knew that we also needed testostrone.

When I was on BC pills, my sex drive plummeted (don't know if that's an option for you).

I know you said you've been through stress before and she hasn't lost her sex drive, but every time is different. Stress can really destroy desire!

Hormones are usually the culprit when sex drive wanes. Like dnmnms said, it's usually the testosterone level. Women need that too.

Thanks everybody, hormones is what I am thinking also. Personaly I really think hers are way out of whack. When she gets premenstruel she reeks of hormones and feels beyond miserable. it has gotten so bad that there is usualy a day or two where all she does is sleep, and being as close as we are I even catch some of the effects. Well that is where we will start at her doctors appt.

Any of the unidose hormone BC completely destroys Mrs. Chicups sex drive.

This is a very common side effect they oddly don't mention on the ads

Go off it and I will bet it all comes back.

It's happened to me a few times, including the DEPO incident. But more recently it's happened due to either a lot of stress in our lives or during/following a bout of illness. For me, I find that the longer I go without it, the less I want it and I have to make a concerted effort to GET my drive BACK. In one case that meant finding some of lotion that got my juices flowing, in others it just means making an effort on my part to get things moving, even if I'm not "in the mood" beforehand.

I agree, Julie. When we go without, whether it's just due to busy schedules, stress, illness, whatever, it's hard to kick-start it again. There have been times I just was NOT in the mood, but made the first moves anyway, because I know what always happens afterwards. The more we have it, the more I want it, and the sex drive is magically back. We've just had a 2 week dry spell, all due to illness, and I will have to put forth that effort to get it back. I'm thinking Saturday nite at the club should do it....

I have always heard and totaly agree with the statement "the more I have it the more I want it". I was reading an article the other day about porn being good for you. The researchers found that bonobo monkees who watched other monkees having sex that there testosterone levels went up 400%. The article was in relation to the effects of lower testoserone on men as they age, and that watching porn and more stimulation might be good for you. I bet this may have something to do with "the more I have it the more I want it" feeling many people seem to get. The more we are stimulated the more testoterone we produce and the more we want to have sex. Personally, I rather watch more porn and have more sex than have to take drugs with the possible side effects.
