lubes=yeast infection, HELP!

Okay...sort of embarassing question here. Mr. O and I have had this happen to us twice now...two different types of lube. One of the lubes contained something that made it sort of sweet...I'm guessing the "sugar" led to the problem. So we moved on to just your standard KY variety after explaining the problem to our pharmacist. Same problem. Yikes! Haven't had yeast infections in quite a long time and it only happens when we use the lube.

I figured KY would be the gentlest. Anyone have any ideas?

JO has one without any glycerin. It's the problem for me. I also like silicon lubes.

yep. it's the glycerin that the yeast can feed off if i remember sex ed properly.

avoid anything with a flavor or fragrance. I'm surprised basic KY had that affect (was it the warming stuff or just plain all KY?)

I've also read on the Board (don't know where) that swinging in itself can bring yeast infections on...condoms and different partners can play a role along with the lubes.

Thankfully, yeast infections are treatable without too much trouble.

Hope you figure out the cause.

Try grape seed oil. This is a really good lube and seeing that it is all natural it will not cause any kinds of infections. It is very easy to wash off and is very good for the skin. The oil has a sweet taste and a pleasant odor and leaves no sticky residue.

This isn't so much an alternate lube suggestion as a potential "treatment" suggestion.

If you find that certain products are giving you yeast infections, try eating yogurt that has live culture in it - acidophilus. If you eat the yogurt both before using something that gives you infections, as well as a couple of times afterwards, that may solve your problem.

I always used to have problems when taking antibiotics, but since I started eating yogurt at the same time, no more problems!

And since eating yogurt is healthy for you anyway, it can't hurt, even if it doesn't help.

Not just swinging but sex in general, if you haven't had it in a while, or if you change partners. I have found over the years that if I go more than a couple of weeks without sex, that just having sex can cause me to get a yeast infection. And then there are the toys...

Something else you might try is a product called RePHresh, using that overnight after sex helps to balance your PH out to help avoid both Yeast and Bacterial infections.

I try to use it pretty regularly now after anything that I think might be likely to lead to a yeast infection...

We use WET - unscented, doesn't warm up with rubbing. Very plain stuff.

The other thing that'll cause yeast infections for me is lubricated condoms. It's the nonoxynol, I think.

So, if lube or condoms are required, I supply them. That's one of our rules, and it's because I have never yet had sex good enough to be worth a week of miserable itching.

Astroglide is the only thing that works well for me. Anything with flavors or warmers in it makes me start burning (not a happy feeling) within seconds.

I never thought of grapeseed oil, I'll have to give that a shot...

I agree with lurkergirl..Astroglide is the best...stay away from all the sweet stuff and all the warming stuff..If anyone is really having a hard time there is this product called Flora Q2 (a probiotic like acidophilous only stronger) can only get it online...take it every day..keeps your coochie healthy

2inVT has the right idea.....find out what works and bring it with you always!! Stay away from anything that has flavor, warming...stick with just straight lube...astroglide is wonderful and I think it lasts longer than K-Y. Good luck, and remember to wash up throughly afterwards!!!!!!!

Now, I find Astroglide kinda sticky. But that's just me. It works fine for me, but WET works better.
