The international language

My wife and I moved to Miami a couple of years ago and we don't speak Spanish. We want to learn but you know how it goes, it's a low priority.

We were out this weekend at dinner with a bilingual couple who introduced us at dinner to another bilingual couple who brought some friends of theirs who don't speak English. Our table was a smooth gradient from Spanish through Spanglish to English. We were at one end, the Spanish-only couple was at the other, we smiled across the table but that's about all that we could do. Enough wine and tappas and all eight of us wanted to go and check out one couple's new condo.

Getting with that couple without being able to talk to them was HOT. Hot hot hot. Even if we learn to speak Spanish we're going to start hanging out with Brazilians instead because that was just hot.

Brazilians speak Portuguese, all other South American and Central American people speak Spanish. I made that mistake once with a group of Brazilian friends that my father had when I was a teenager and never forgot

Hi everyone,
I am Mexican, living in the center of the Country and I know the problems about language barriers, and we (anglosaxons and latins) have another differences, (as culture, p.ex.), we the latins are more conservative and shy people (about sex themes) but sexually we are hot and like other skin colors, maybe one fantasy of white people is have sex with mexican, colombian or brazilian people.
anyway, when people want to share ideas, experiences or sex activity, I think language barriers are not big problems..

Speak for yourself! I am Argentinian, back to the south end people are less conservative than in the north (until reaching the Ecuator line ), and this is very notorious for us when being with other Latin American people. I guess this have to do with being along the path of the Spanish conquerors, having a port used by inmigrants, and at end such a mixed population.

Another difference is that we (latins) are touchy people, we don't regret nor avoid phisical contact the same way Anglosaxon people does, and we're more open to use and accept the body language even in the more vanilla situations (something I found out colliding when meeting Anglosaxon people).

Anyway, my wife barely speak English. We meet this women who speak English and barely Spanish (altough she had better Spanish than my wife's English), and the three of us had a great time besides the language barrier.

Who knows? Couldn't be Swinging the Babel Tower?
