Default Sexy attire for men?

We all want to look good, but face it, women have much greater selection when it comes to dressing sexy. Sometimes, as a guy, it feels like I am stuck in a rut.

Admittedly, when we go to socials I dress pretty much the same as every day. Slacks or Khakis, solid color dress shirt or polo style shirt, oxfords or blucher shoes, maybe a sports coat in colder months. Rarely do I wear ties. Nice boxers or boxer briefs.

Generally the selection of colors and fabric are what separates "dressing okay" from "well dressed" in men's clothing.

My wife thinks how I dress is sexy, but it seems the guys generally all look about the same in terms of dress, and frankly it is kind of boring.

I am curious what women think qualifies as dressing sexy for men?

I guess everybody has a different idea of what sexy is for them. For me (and a couple of girlfriends), being clean and neat is #1. No baggy pants, no sleeveless...no wrinkled cotton...no sweatshirts or sweatsuits... buttoned shirts are always nice to unbutton...jeans and a sportscoat always look attractive, too, casual-dressed up. We know men hate ties...but they can be very sexy to take off and maybe used later as...? I guess whatever makes you feel sexy -- it'll show. Also, always trust your wife on this one. :-)

Here's a GREAT party look, and attitude!

You can thank me later.

For guys, in my very humble opinion*, if you try to "dress sexy", you end up looking like, or at least feeling like a goober, or like one of the guys in the picture.

If it's a theme night, I believe the ladies appreciate a gentleman that honors the theme. Confidence in the outfit being the key, I think.

On a non-theme night, I don't think it's so much what you wear, as long as it looks like it matches and is either current or classic fashion, it's clean, in good repair, and your grooming is spot on (so shave off the mongoose that's growing up the back of your neck).

The guys are a lot luckier in figuring out what to wear. We get to keep it simple and follow some basic rules. The ladies are the ones that never have a thing to wear. These of course are generalities. YMMV.

On a side note: If two ladies show up at an event wearing the same style dress, they're generally going to be pissed about it. If two guys show up wearing the same shirt, they're "shirt buddies" for the rest of the evening, and are quick to appreciate the other's excellent taste.

*I expect to be challenged on this one. It's just one opinion that is often the wrong one. I could be self-projecting on this as well.

The woman's POV: Sexy is as sexy does. Usually.

Shoes matter. No running shoes!! That was a hard one to teach PB. I like to see a man in something other than running shoes or sandals, even at a casual first meet for a drink. A nice pair of casual leather shoes in winter, deck shoes in summer.

T-shirts usually are NOT a good idea. I made PB buy a couple of nice, fairly restrained Hawaiian shirts this spring, and just recently some very nice linen shirts with a bit of interesting detail. Now I have to teach him not to tuck them in, since they look better untucked IMHO.

Khakis or really nice jeans.

And a wicked twinkle in the eye.

It sounds like it's not so much what you wear but how you wear it.

This is my own personal style, since I can't speak for what women find sexy/attractive

I think that well fitting clothes are likely the most important thing. We could both be wearing the exact same outfit, but if mine is very well fitted (perhaps even tailored) then I'll likely come across as being well dressed in comparison. I try to pair well fitted clothes with some subtle funkiness. A dress shirt that has a funky pattern that isn't in your face; perhaps just a funky pattern inside the collar and cuffs. I wear jeans and a nice dress shirt quite a bit, you can pair a sport jacket with that and look very nice. A cool tshirt with nice jeans and a sports coat is good as well. When I say jeans here, I am talking about a well fitted pair of dark washed jeans with no rips or fading

Pair that with a nice pair of leather shoes, a belt that matches the shoes and socks that match your pants. You'll look very put together. If you're not sure how to put a whole outfit together do what I do: find a high end mens store, pick out a guy there who dresses how you like and have him pick stuff for you. You don't need to buy things there, just see what his ideas are for you, then go find something similar at a cheaper store. One thing I will note though; a very nice shirt/pants definitely stands out from their cheaper cousins. You can tailor cheaper clothes to make them look better, but an expensive shirt is made with nicer fabric, better patterns and more favourable lines. I try to splurge on something like that when I can, and I supplement with cheaper stuff for the rest.

I too agree that women have a great advantage over men in dressing sexy. In addition from having more to select from, women are just miles ahead of the guys in looking sexy.

I always try to wear classy clothes a notch or two below what I might wear if I were getting married to the most beautiful woman in the world. Oh come to think of it, that is exactly what I did several years ago....marry the most beautiful woman in the world.

She and her friends always keep a smile on my face and a twinkle in my eyes which are probably the two most important things a guy can wear to be sexy looking.

For me whenever I go to a party (unless it is a theme party) I always wear good quality and well fitting clothes - nice casual shirt with buttons (!), slacks, socks and dress shoes. As for what is underneath I usually wear brief bikini shorts.

Agree with all the postings. Since getting into the lifestyle, both my wife and I have slowly "transformed" ourselves. It began with working out as we both realized we let ourselves go a bit. As we began feeling sexier, we wanted to dress sexier. Attitude is so important. Beyond what you wear, feeling good about yourself goes a long way.

As for me, I was a bit lost. I began flipping through a few magazines like GQ, Esquire, Details and Men's Health. It was less about finding the right outfit, but just understanding a bit more about good style and what clothes fit my body type (cause I'm nowhere near any of the men who appear in those magazines!).

It boiled down to finding the right size, getting things tailored if necessary, dropping the pleats and the cuffs, actually thinking about details like shoes and belts and making sure they aren't scuffed up. It also meant finding clothes that I'm comfortable in, and fit my age. I tend toward liking what I see in Banana Republic, some J. Crew, and Tommy Hilfiger in terms of quality and fit. I tend to be verrrrrry conservative, so my wife encourages me to push the envelope in terms of a color or a design on a shirt.

Yes, there have been some swings and misses, but overall have done pretty well going by the basic rules above. I also tell my wife that there is no such thing as being "overdressed"!

Not sure what the photo is, but that site set off bells and whistles on my end. Granted I keep my security protocols pretty tight. It is infected with Ball attack malware. That trojan is about a year old, so it may have been cleaned up. But without overriding my security, I can't get to the site. Just an FYI. If you are on a mac you should be fine. If you are one a PC, let me know what happens.

I was thinking of a somewhat related topic today, men's hair styles. I see some that are just way outdated, as if they have had the same haircut since the 70s! Go for something more modern!
