I received a PM today from a regular playmate saying they were glad summer was ending so they would have more time to play. It is the second time I have heard that comment. The first summer as swingers is rapidly coming to a close. Last winter and spring things were very active for us, we met many new people and our "social calendar" was over flowing. We really were looking forward to a "swinging" summer. As it turns our we were wrong. We thought with the kids being out of school and in summer camp (we both work) we would be more flexible time wise in the absence of scheduled activities such as school events, sports, scouting etc. We spent much more time with the kids doing things we enjoyed, for me worked took up more time than I thought, a few big "honey do" project fell in my lap. SO we had less time but our schedules were still manageable. But it was not just us. Regular playmates had scheduling issues too. Their kids being out of school, older kids home from college (making it impossible to host and hard to explain where they were all night). Couples with kids from previous marriages had their kids for extended periods this summer. Some took on major "honey do" projects like I did. Regular sitters being out of town or unavailable. Scheduling conflicts with everyone's vacations etc.etc. Even the socials were different. We were unable to get away together so I went solo to one. Turn out was down. Almost all of the couples we regularly see were not there. Apparently, the previous month had a lighter turn out as well. Plus, with temperatures nearing 100 degrees outside, and a couple hundred people entering the ball room at nearly the same time, the place heated up quickly. The AC struggled to keep up and took some time before the temp started dropping again. That put a damper on the mood for a while and the party got off to a slow start. SO here is the question. Which season seems to be the best to swing? Or is there no difference? |

For us, the winter seems to be the most active time--even up here in PA. I suppose because it's cold and there's nothing better to do. Actually, I think it's because fall sports are finished and spring sports haven't yet begun. Most of our friends have kids and therefore take their big vacations over the summer--in addition to what you already mentioned about the kids being home more. |

For this area, the club numbers tell the story as far as turnout for events. Twice as many turn out for events in the winter as the summer months. Graduations, vacation trips, kids' activities. These things take away a good percentage of swingers during the spring and summer. Our personal swinging activity doesn't seem to be affected by the seasons though. We've had some awesome winters, and some slow ones. Currently, here in the middle of summer, we've been on a swinging streak that's hotter than Georgia asphalt. But, we've had some slow summers too. Guess our variables are different than the norm. As for which season is "best"? Whichever one we're having the most fun and success. |

Here in the deep south we have the advantage of winter being a great time of year... The main detail is the three major holidays that provide great cover for going to parties... Halloween parties for weeks...a couple of Thanksgiving events...Christmas parties start December 1...New Years get togethers and then the big New Years Eve event...we even have friends who have their New Years bash the weekend after New Years Eve (wink, wink). We've had slow winters, summers, spring and fall...but fall/winter/spring seem to be better than summer... Trace |

I'm just grateful to live in a rather "mild" climate... so play happens all year round! (although it can get a bit warm during the summer months)

Summer totally blows for us. Dave lives away from our main house during the summer and even though he's here on weekends, it still doesn't give us much playtime. We don't always play on weekends. Sometimes it's during the week night. Our kids are usually visiting, we visit other family, etc. Spring, Fall and Winter is much better for us! |

As it happened, summer was particularly good for us because that's when we started. We were in Florida on vacation when we went to a club for the first time. After that, it didn't seem to make much difference except for the times that a snowstorm might force us to cancel plans to drive to the nearest club. That was a minor inconvenience that only delayed us for a week. We survived! |
