This is a topic that has come up for me a lot lately. I posted about it in my blog here earlier in the week. The topic came up again today with my trainer when he said he wasn't very lucky and I said the same thing to him.... Luck is keeping your eyes open. It's about looking around and catching opportunities as they come to you, rather than just having your eyes set on the destination in front of you, you make everything part of your journey. I was just reading another old thread The fallback position. that brought it to mind again. So I ask you, do you consider yourself lucky in swinging? Do things just seem to work out? Or do you find that you are always on a set course and when/if that course doesn't work out you end up dissapointed without a backup plan? |

I know I am lucky but I keep it simple. I never expect anything so anything that comes my way is a gift and I love it. To many make this Lifestyle so hard that it turns into work and drama. I am also lucky because I have the perfect partner in my life. Makes this journey that much more enjoyable. Yes, I am very lucky. |

Mr. Sweet and I are very lucky. We've been swinging nearly a year now, and have met some great people and had some fantastic experiences with very little drama. We pretty much go into everything with open minds and go with the flow. And at the end of the night, no matter what happens we have each other to play with--nothing beats that. =) |

We have been very fortunate, but if it's true that you "make your own luck," then we would attribute the luck to flexibility, realistic expectations, honesty, genuine friendliness, and having a high level of respect for others.

If you define luck as being successful, proactive, friendly, available and fun, then yes - we've been very lucky so far! |

We have been very lucky for we go to a great swinger's club in Las Vegas and have made some good friends. We have also had great sex with couples and signles that we have meet throughout the years. I, myself am the luckest person because of my great lady that puts up with my crap all day and still tells me that she loves me at the end of the day. A great swinger's club, great sex and a great lady by my side. This is more then luck, it's a gift.

The fact that we are in a great relationship that includes swinging makes me feel luckier than about 90% of the general population. As to luck in actual swinging, I would say we are. We never go to an event with any expectations, other than to have fun. We've enjoyed some incredible playtimes with some great couples, and we've been able to avoid any major disasters. I guess Luck really is when preparation meets opportunity. |

Luck is when opportunity and preparation intersect. I have often compared swinging and fishing as I think the two have may similarities. An analogy I have stated before but think is relevant here is to picture a rank amateur fisherman and a pro bass fisherman. The rank amateur buys the minimum amount of the cheapest and most simple gear he/she can find at walmart, goes down to a body of water. Puts a hunk of bait on a hook and throws it out in the water. The pro bass fisherman has a specific species in mind. Spends all his time studying the habits of that species and knows what kind of water and what kind of underwater structures that species inhabits, knows what kind of weather, water and seasonal characteristics increase or decrease that fish' feeding responses. The pro buys all the latest and greatest gear and is always studying new technologies and research etc etc. Now here is where it becomes like swinging, the rank amateur could happen to snag a record breaking bass on his first cast and the pro could spend an entire day on the lake with his $30, 000 bass boat, electronic equiptment and top notch fishing gear and all the knowledge he can muster and he can go home empty handed. However over time the bass pro will catch more and bigger bass and will go home empty handed less while the amateur will catch less bass and more carp and other bottom feeders and will go home emptyhanded more often. Opportunity + preparation = luck |

That is absolutely correct and very relevant as well. Sometimes the minimalist approach and enjoying the moment without getting all hung up on labels (aka "species") is just the ticket. Truth of the matter is I am much more of a simple hook and worm kind of guy than a bass pro. I like to take my rod, reel and carton of worms down to the water because I like the global experience of fishing and I like to catch fish whatever that fish may be. I like to feel the sun on my face, the smell and sounds of the outdoors and the fun and excitement when you get that first nibble and you don't know whether it is a record walleye or bass or whether it is a bullhead that is going to try and sting you when you try to get it off your hook. I think the bass pros get to a point where they lose touch and miss out on a lot of that. Yes they catch more bass and bigger bass but they have also lost a lot of what the experience of fishing really is. Thanks for bringing that up and pointing that out Lee. | |

VegasLee and jdavisauto... two lucky men in Las Vegas... Bet that makes the pit bosses nervous. ![]() I agree with all the lucky points made... it's expectations, planning, etc... and at the end of the day, my best friend... my spouse and my lover... all rolled up into one! |

Yeah, I think we're lucky, too. We meet wonderful people without expectations and if something does happen, it's a bonus. If nothing happens, we didn't fail, and we go home and play together. I wouldn't want to go through this journey with anyone else but him. He makes it half the fun! |

We feel we have been lucky - Our goal when we go out is to have fun, party, and hopefully play. Met lots of great couples over the years and those experiences we are not fond of remembering, well, we have taken away lifes lessons from them and improved our game in order to be more lucky in the future! |
