I think some object to "lifestyle" because to them the word carries a connotation of heavy involvement. They don't see themselves as being involved with swinging to the degree of calling it a lifestyle. Our guess is many of the same people who object to the term lifestyle, also are concerned with not being seen as "bed hoppers". Both terms are seen in a negative light for the same reason.

To us what makes this our Lifestyle as well as "The" Lifestyle is that very openness that people we meet have.

We like the idea that we don't have to guard ourselves as much due to possibly offending someone.

Think of it this way, when you've had sex with someone or their partner, what is there that you CAN'T discuss...

Cheers!

Last night when I read this reply, I was a bit put off. I mean, what do you mean you don't know any open minded people, you're a swinger!?! Now, having read your "confession" I understand, and I wish you much happiness whatever your future holds.

VegasLee is right: Call it what you want to call it, and don't stress out over it. You can call it whatever, if you want to call it "adventures in wonderland". Most importantly, just try to enjoy yourselves.

I guess the only swingers' term I don't like hearing is "Thanks, but no thanks!"

In fact knb2004 I owe you a big thank you. Your post really got me thinking how much I want to know open minded loving people. We are very new swingers and only soft swapped once at a club with people from another town to protect our anonymity. After your post I had such a desire to have at least a few people really know us. It lead to me writing what you have called a "confession", Thank You

I'm sorry my answer put you off at first though, but it was more true than you know.

Wow. Just wow.

To think that my words caused you to make such a major life decision is, frankly, somewhat intimidating. I am at a complete loss for words, and usually the only time that happens is when I'm sleeping.

I hope you are doing what's right for you, from what I've seen I think it is. If not, I'm gonna have a seriously guilty conscience.

And just for the record, when I said "put off" I didn't in any way mean offended, just a bit shocked that a swinger didn't know anyone openminded.

I used to live in your neck of the woods, beautiful country.

I say again, I wish you luck, if I can be of any help please do let me know, publically or privately.

I like that!! May have to borrow that one

We don't get hung up on the terms. People know what you mean when you say Lifestyle. If that doesn't mean exactly the same thing to them that it does us, no big deal. All each is other is trying to do is find out if the others are in the game, in that context doesn't matter if you plan your life around it or just get out a couple times a year.

Doesn't bother us in the least, but it's better then "Wife Swappers".

That being said, when tend to use "swinger" more often then "lifestyle" (and we've never used "lifestyler".) That's how we refer to ourselves and others who do what we do... as swingers. We'll use "lifestyle" when we're in a semi-public location (say, a booth of a restaurant) and even though we're trying to keep quiet, saying to word "swinger" is like screaming "Hi Jack!" in a plane.

We don't consider it a "lifestyle" but more of a hobby. That being said, the term "lifrstyle' doesn't bither us.
