I work in an office with myself and, usually, eight women. We are expecting an inspector to come soon and, yesterday, were discussing things we could do to distract him and get better ratings. One of the older women suggested that one particular, young and very cute, woman might dress provocatively that day and flirt a little. I laughed and added that it'd be our luck that the guy would be gay. Well our boss, an attractive early 40's lady, said that in that case I could flirt with him. When I didn't respond immediately she added..., "Come on, Rich, you can take one for the team." I smiled but didn't respond and then the boss stammered a little and explained that 'taking one for the team' was a sports term. There is one woman that was there that knows about my swinging and is in the lifestyle herself. Later I asked her what she thought and she, like me, thought that it must be a slip from someone at least very familiar with the lifestyle. So, what do you folks think? And, Angie, if you're reading this I would never, ever, out you. In fact, I have a new admiration for you. Last edited by ViSexual : 06-19-2008 at 03:31 AM. |

I do believe it started in sports, probably football, where a player was asked to take a hit to benefit a team effort. Mr. Alura

| Julie's Helper | Yes, it is a sports term that has been around for a long time, but it has been adopted by business, and well, just plain people.

| Swingers Board Addict | Yep, I've heard this term in "vanilla" life, although not so much down here in FL. I was surprised to find it widely used when referring to swinging. I mean it makes sense, especially when considered in the context of potential play. |

I could be that you and your friend meet two women. One is good looking the other, well let's just say that she is homely. Then which ever one of ya'll gets the good looking one, then the other friend is taking one for the team. So it would be better for your friendship if both of you just fucked both of them. Then nobody has to "Take one". HA! HA! |

It refers to a batter who stays in the batters box knowing that the pitch will probably hit him. This obviously can cause a great deal of discomfort depending on the speed and the location of the pitch. The reward is that the batter gets to go to first base, thereby putting the team in a better position to score a run. |

It makes sense that it would have come from the sports world as well. I doubt we really have any terms that are specific only to swinging (heh... swinging - taking one for the team - both double entrendre's to baseball... go figure). There are just many terms that over the years people have used in various forms and some have worked their way into swinging... kinda like the term Vanilla. | |
