Those symbols look like they always assume the girls are bi and the guys are straight and that it is a foursome.

doesn't have to be that, i was just thinking a variation of something like that...maybe even each person's could be different symbolizing what they are most into. ie: 3somes, 4somes, bi fems, bi men, etc.

I have no affiliation with this website but at nipplecharms.com there are swinger ankle bracelets that are pretty cool.

It's been a while since I looked into this thread. I basically checked back in to see if we've come to a consensus.

When I said something about ego, and everyone thinks their idea is best, I didn't mean you, or anyone else involved in this discussion. I actually meant the merchandisers with websites, but looking back over my post, I didn't say that. What I should have said was "every retailer thinks their symbol is the best." Sorry for the confusion.

We have to remember that this symbol is something retailers are going to have to get involved in. Not everyone can or will want to print their own t-shirts, make jewelry, or embroider baseball caps. I know, in some ways that's sad, but we have to be realistic.

I was reading through this, and had a few thoughts.

#1 - What about a symbol that only has meaning when both partners are together? Instead of each person wearing something that identifies them as a swinger, it would be something both parties wear/say/do that identifies them as a swinging couple. Isn't that what we're mostly after anyway? Not sure what it would be though.

#2 - Most symbols emerge organically, rather than being designed. It's hard to convince people to use a certain symbol or symbol set; is there anything already happening that could be promoted?

#3 - I do like the idea of the rings, especially interlocking ones around the middle finger. I had high hopes for some kind of jelly bracelet, but (thankfully) that trend is dying. But what about an action, gesture, catch phrase...these things are symbols too. The point is to communicate to others who may be observant that we are in the same club. Perhaps a hand signal? But it would be better if it were something passive, so we don't go waving at other couples hoping they "get it." What about a certain affect with clothing? Something unbuttoned, untucked, knotted, crossed, just a little bit off but not more than a shrug from passersby?

Default Symbol or sign language for swingers

It is high time that we developed a symbol or a sign language for swingers community. This would communicate without offending anyone and make life easier for us. I know a lot has been said about it but nothiing concrete has been done so far. I once again implore you all to make an all out effort in this direction. would appreciate suggestions

I can't be bothered to look but there's how many threads on this topic already? No matter what symbol we adopted, it would A)not stay a secret for long, so if you wore it you'd be outing yourself or B) it would be co-opted as cool by the vanilla world and thus be useless as an identifier of a true swinger

NASCA has the apple with a bite out of it...

"NASCA International (formerly the North American Swing Club Association) is an association of clubs, websites, publications, travel ... "

The apple with a bite out of it, seems prevalent, if not concrete.

For those, that want more than one bite out of life.

I have an image of an apple with a bite taken out of it on my computer. How does that differ from the Nasca symbol?

The apple is turned the other way.

I was thinking the same thing even though Robert from Lifestyles started using that apple of his a very long time ago.

If it ever became big time I can see a certain computer company getting nuts over that choice for "swingers" even though Robert does not like the term swingers.

Then again, I can not bring myself to use computers with fruit on the front of them.

Swingers aka People in general will NEVER agree on one symbol that would "out" them to the real world. Most of them can not even agree what a "swinger" is.

Vegas Lee is so correct in so many ways.

Firstly, Computers with friut on them are not my favorite. However, they do symbolize and "Alternative computing lifestyle"!

You will be hard pressed to get two swingers in the same room to agree on the definition of swinging. Never mind the variants there of. Imagine the council of swingers (A dream of the future) sitting in chamber making up the rules, regs and by-laws of swinging. HA HA HA HA!

One symbol, no matter what it became would be used to look cool by those NOT in the LS. This is simply the way of humanity to be different among ones peers. That would render the symbol useless.

Until the lifestyle community becomes fully open to the public and accepted (HA HA HA HA HA) as gay and lesbians have become (Again, HA HA HA HA HA) there will never be an organized symbol, convention or definition.

This is such a lovely pipe dream. I hate being the voice of negativity. However, as has been stated earlier in this thread, the number of posts, threads and various blogs relating to this issue are QUITE Numerous!

Oh, to dream!

Nothing funnier to me than a group of non-conformists who all dress alike... IMO humanity's way is to form little tribal clusters of alike individuals who all trumpet how unique they are.

The greatest Non-conformists simply conform to a smaller number of like minded individuals!

Hi jef ~

I merged your thread with this long-running thread on the same topic. Read through it and you'll see that you are not alone in your desire for a symbol or sign for the swinging community.

"But what would it be, and would it work?" seems to be the question that still remains.
