swappernet?????

Does anyone know what is going on with Swappernet. This morning I noticed a thread on one of their group pages that the owners had run off with the money and that the site would close down or be turned over to AFF. This generally seemed to be scoffed at and I assumed an unhappy customer was spreading rumors. I just tried to log on and get a white screen. Is the site just down or are we out our membership fees? I don't really care about the rumors other than how his will affect us. I will lose contact info with friends that I stored on their address list etc. Mrs. NJcouple

As far as I know nothing has changed. Swappernet was sold a year or so ago by the original creators to a large public company. Last I heard (which was about 3 weeks ago) the original people were no longer involved in the site, but it's still under the same owners. I don't know anything beyond that. I think that some of the people who used to be involved in the site weren't very happy when the original creators left.

edit- I'm not getting the site to load at all right now so I would venture to say it's a server/dns issue at the moment.

It was down for me as well, but as of 9:58 p.m., it seems to be up and running.

Edit: However, you can't pull up profiles, must be a server issue.

Swappernet might go the way of the dinosaurs, if they don't watch what they are doing. They have raised the prices, and are making unpopular changes. Two threads are up about what has been happening, and the response from the webmaster has been uncaring. People may want to look elsewhere before spending money with swappernett.

Hmmm. Haven't heard the rumor, but in this area, swappernet is definitely the premier contact site as well as party source. I have profiles on both swappernet & Swing Lifestyle and I prefer the former. It would be a shame for it to be absorbed into AFF, which I despise.

The last straw for us was them taking away the "last online" feature, which we find valuable for weeding out inactive people. They raised the prices, then this? I wrote and asked why they took away that feature, and they didn't respond, so I wrote again and told them not to renew our account when it comes up later this month. Let's see if they respond to that...if not, we're done there.

Someone started a thread about your question. I was looking at it this morning, but it is gone now. It isn't good business to not listen to your customers. The majority of posts expressed dissatisfaction about the missing feature. Anyone thinking about joining that site DON'T!!!

I just pulled my links to them, between all of what's been said, the fact that I know the've changed hands, and the last straw was finding that my links to them were now going nowhere - whether it was a temporary glitch or something more permanent I'm not going to keep knowingly sending traffic to nowhere.

I just tried to update our profile, letting people know that they could find us at Swing Lifestyle when our listing expires. I used the full web address. The SN site automatically changed the link to www.anotherwebsite.com. I then tried to just list "swinglifestyle", but it changed it to "another website". So I then just put Swing Lifestyle, and it stayed that way.

If they now have their site programmed to change references to other websites, they must have people bailing out like crazy. I'd seriously think twice before spending another dime with them, because my guess is they are not going to be around very long. Too bad, because they used to be great...

It's pretty normal for sites to automatically remove links to other sites, and I can see where they may even go in and automatically censor known names of competitor sites... there's no way they are going to block them all but since Swing Lifestyle is pretty much their biggest competition I can definately see it.

I did go back and change it again, using the three words in all small letters 'swing life style". That stuck.

Also...still no response to either of my emails.

We're members of Swappernet and we like the site. The groups and party listings are a main connection for our area, and there seem to be more "real" couples who will play on this site, with pics, than on some of the other sites. This is true in our area, at least.

We just checked Swappernet and all the features seem to be up and running just fine for us.

The "last time on" feature no longer exists. You can't tell if a person/couple has been on in the last hour or the last year.

There's definitely something hinky and stinky over at Swappernet.

Add my name to the masses who used to love Swappernet. But in recent weeks they've had multiple technical issues, as well as features that show up, disappear, and show up again... not to mention some features going away all together, such as the aforementioned "Last Seen:" line on profiles and in Friends List.

The changes have been evolving over the past few weeks... for example, the "Last Seen:" line disappeared on individual profiles, but was still available on Friends List. Two to three days ago, the feature disappeared from Friends List as well.

I replied to an Ask the Webmaster thread complaining about the fact that the Last Seen feature was taken away. My comment I posted last night appeared this morning (all Ask the Webmaster posts are set to be approved by an administrator before they appear on the site), and I added another comment. Tonight, the entire thread has been deleted. I also replied to another thread about negative feedback to changes, as well as started one myself... and neither of these posts/threads have appeared.

It's too bad... here in Indiana, Swapper is by far the pre-eminent site. I'll be mightily disappointed, not to mention pissed, if they don't get their act together... but it's not looking good.
