Due to the recent thread about the "Dr. Phil" show, I fould it interesting that I received a copy of the link posted below in my e-mail today. It seems that the "Oprah" show is looking for real life swingers. I know we have discussed at different times here about "coming out of the closet" but it never hurts to bring old topics back again. So...my question to the Board is would you or wouldn't you consider going on national T.V. and proclaiming to the world that you are a swinger? Personally I have mixed feelings about this. I am not ashamed of what we do and I willingly discuss the swinging lifestyle with those that ask about it but, at this time in my life national television is not where I want to be. Part of me thinks it would be great to dispel some of the misconceptions about swinging, but another part of my brain kicks in and starts thinking about the domino affect it would have on my life right now and that's not good. IF all of my children were grown, I would seriously consider it. However, we still have two living at home and I will never do anything to cause them any harm of any kind. I'm sure there are those who think that using the kids as an excuse is a cop-out, I personally think of it as being a responsible parent. So, until all our children are grown, I will pass on any chance of proclaiming to the world on national television that we are swinginger. We would not. Especialy with children living at home. But even if we didn't I think the potential for them putting a negative spin on it is to high. I highly doubt Opera wants to portray swinging in a good light because that would be in a sense promoting it. Since swinging is still widely considered by the general public to be something "Bad" I can't see her putting her "reputation" on the line to show that in reality we are everyday people next door kind of folks. |

Laura and I with other friends did a bit for Playboy T.V. that should be airing in the next couple of months. This was done at the club we host at the last day of the Lifestyles Convention this year. Because of it being Playboy it should air in a pretty positive light so that was the only reason we agreed to line up the people for it when Playboy contacted us. We had a wide range of people involved. Newbies to people that have been swinging for over twenty years. They also filmed "play scenes" with many of us that they will add to the interviews. They ended up with over four hours of film but the total segment will only be fifteen minutes long when they air it. Should be intersting to see how they edit this one. The problem I see with the Opera show is going to be they are going to only have a very limited number of people so there is not going to be a good cross section of people showing what the Lifestyle is really about. She will also bring on "experts" that will spin a negitive view of what we do. We where contacted about the Opera show and told them NO due to how we fell they are going to edit it and the type of people they are going to use. |

If we did not have children and enough money to support us if we got black listed from work.. yes.. I would. But seeing how that is not the case I would be to afraid of what would happen. |

I am a firm believer that what goes on in private should stay in private. I have a child and have no reason to come out and have him deal with the backlash. Once the cameras are off and the show is over, its my family who has to live with the consequences and I just have no desire to hurt them in that manner.

There has NEVER been any backlash or hurt when it came to our family or friends. Mainly because we have never hidden our Lifestyle from the family or friends. We have never lost a job or had problems with the kids. Our Lifestyle goes way beyond just the bedroom as many of the people that are NOT in the Lifetyle do not understand. Yes, it is about the sex with us, but there is so much more to it in reality. Our belief is that the only things that can hurt us in life are the things that are hidden or lied about. Read once, that "The Truth will set you free". Was the greatest thing I have ever heard and we live by it in all aspects of our lives. | |

Thats great that you can do that. But not all of us can. We, like others, established a life in the vanilla world before this lifestyle was even considered by us and unfortunately the two are not compatable because if the vanilla enviroment we live in. We wish that they were but the reality of it is they are not. We do not lie about what we do. No one has asked. If and when they do we will not deny it but will not tell all either. |

These were some of my very thoughts as well. I have a hard time believing that she/they would do a good job of actually presenting the Lifestyle in a positive light. Now the Playboy Channel is another story and I would have no problem being on that. Ted and I have given permission at conventions for our pictures to be taken and have been on the cover of small swinger magizines and in flyers for a certain convention...however, this was not national television and was done by swingers for swingers. I think there's a big difference between coming out on say Playboy TV or a Lifestyle documentary and coming out on Opera just based on the difference in who the viewers are.

Vegas Lee Sorry, I didn't mean to sound preachy there, I mean that philosphy was for myself and my family. I truly do think it is wonderful that you have such a positive experience in the lifestyle!! However, as much as I know my parents to be the most wonderful and accepting, supportive people in the world, this might be a little too much for them . I also know that my employer is very religous and woudl not be so accepting of this, would I lose my job, doubtful, would it affect they way they treat me..probably. I guess I am just not ready to 'come out'. Maybe someday..who knows.

I would not go on National T.V. to talk about my swinging....for one I think that show would not show my lifestyle in a truely posititve way or true to how I live, and also I just would not want my family to discover the details of my personal life.

I would have to believe Oprah would come at the topic with a negitive light too. She just comes accross as a person who looks negitive on anything not Uber Vanilla. I can remember her giveing Tom Cruise a hard time for being in "Interview with a Vampire" way back when it was first out. Thus I see nothing coming besides a bunch of "Experts" saying swinging ruins relationships and hurts marrages ect ect.
