This convention planned by "Texas Passion Events" was set to roll into the Courtyard Marriott in Midland when a public outcry stopped it right in its tracks. Calls from angry Midland neighbors poured into District Attorney, Teresa Clingman's office, and she launched an investigation making sure no laws were being broken. That's when the corporate office for the hotel, decided to cancel the contract.

So she's saying it's not the type of event most locals would want, but she's suing because the DA questioned the hotel about it? Is she the person behind the business that was going to put it on?

What a pity!

There's not much to do in Midland except drill for oil, work cattle, visit the Commemorative Air Force Museum, and have sex. It seems to me that sex is the most fun of the four.

When I was a college student I was arrested in Midland for selling hope chest items to single women. (My Summer job.) Yep! Midland had an ordinance against that heinous crime. (The D.A. released me rather than face a lawsuit.)

Here is the part that bothers me.

The Rev. Robert Pase of Grace Lutheran Church said because Clingman's position as district attorney allowed her only to ensure the conference would operate legally, she contacted him about the upcoming event.

I can understand her meeting with the hotel and going over the laws or "ground rules" for an event like this. That is in the realm of her position in the government.

I don't understand where she should have contacted the Rev. Robert Pase. That turns it into a personal thing and out of the bounds of her position.

Since they where within the law it appears she felt the need to sic the church on them.

I see a suit here but have a feeling that in the long run this suit will go nowhere. You have one women that "says" she is going to see an attorney. This is going to cost money and she is going to need many people to step up since she wants this to be a class action suit. Most are NOT going to step up and show their face in court for something like this.

Here I thought a Christian's job was to love, and it was God's job to do the judging. Silly me.

Lol, silly you is right...you obviously haven't been around a lot of religious people lately. I'm not talking about people who go to church...I'm talking about the ones that like to cram the bible down your throat and the whole time you're choking, they're saying, "It's God's will".

This is such a sad truth. It's also why I have been emailing the pastor from the article back and forth since my post. He has misquoted scripture and taken verses out of context multiple times to justify his actions. I am considering contacting his bishop and see what he thinks of the situation...

Interestingly enough, the original article was taken down and one has replaced it. The new one is a short summary (not including pastor pase this time), and then taps into the reaction of the community to the issue. The comments section, which I had commented on, had been wiped clean as well.

Why the cover-up?

Totalitarianism?
Pastor asked to be omitted due to negative media attention from readers?
Bad reaction on the news studio part from their audience?
