That is really to bad. Thad is a great guy and has worked hard for many years to keep things right in this Lifestyle.

Now his son, that is another story. He tends to walk on the dark side in many area's that has not been good for Thad's. Guess that is what happens when you don't build something yourself and have it handed to you.

SAN DIEGO - A swingers' sex party is broken up after the owner's son gets stabbed by one of its participants. Police have a 23-year-old man under arrest. It happened at a place called Thad's.

Not knowing thad or his son, I can only sympathize with him. As a member of the LS, I find the story run by sign on San Diego to be very responsible reporting! Just the facts! The other RAG had little or nothing to do with the stabbing! That bit of sensationalism and yellow journalism shows that particular new media's true colors!

Having attended Thad's once earlier this year because it was an off weekend and all of the rest of the clubs in the area were closed (we were visiting)...this story doesn't shock us. The couple we went with said that Thad's really used to have good parties, but has gone steadily downhill. If we were to rate it, I'm not sure I could even give it one star. I don't even know where to begin, but it clearly lacks from proper ownership. The night we were there, the number of single men which outnumbered the couples and single ladies in attendance by far. Many wereyoung military guys on weekend passes, and while we had good chats with a couple, we witnessed a couple of tense moments and could see how something could get ugly.

What you outlined there is what Thad's has always been. He catered to the military guys. Couples and single women that went there went for that very reason.

Thad's never promoted their place as a couple to couple club and most that asked around know that.

During high deployment times the couples and women would complain if the ratio dropped to 3 men to every women. They where used to it being 5 to 1.

The military guys where always well behaved. They have a lot to lose if there is legal problems of any kind and they had manners 99.9% of the time.

There where other singles that would show up that did not have a clue but most of the Military guys that where regulars would keep the rest of them in line also.

What few problems Thad did have over the years was Husbands that came with the wife. Seems some married men can not deal with the young hard body military guys that their wives wanted to party with.

Thad's son took over when Thad retired and things went south quickly. From what I have been told Thad has returned and is trying to get things back in line.

VL - Thanks for the background, very interesting. We were just there for a weekend visit from the East Coast.

By all accounts, it was probably wasn't the best night to go out since it was the weekend after new years eve and I'm sure most folks were taking a breather.

Also, certainly didn't want to implicate "military guys" -- as most everyone we met were pretty nice and we've had our share of fun with couples where the male half was active/former military or law enforcement.

Our biggest issues with club was general upkeep and cleanliness, and lack of any mixers at the bar (again, maybe that is standard that you need to bring that along with your alcohol??).

Glad to hear Thad is back, because the space (and pool) are actually a pretty neat concept. It's always nice to have alternatives that are different than your standard club setting!

Ricardo Luis Pena, 29, was convicted last October of residential burglary, petty theft and assault with a deadly weapon.
