It's hilarious, terrifying, revealing of the mores of the times, and it has a few real insights buried among the prejudices and failed logic.

The Kinsey investigators drew this conclusion from their data?: that reconciling the individual’s desire for coitus with a variety of sexual partners and the maintenance of a stable marriage, presents a problem which has not beer) [sic] satisfactorily resolved in our culture.

“Can marital stability be maintained in the face of extra-marital relations on the part of the husband or wife?” asks Dr. Abraham Stone, one of America’s most noted marriage consultants.

“It has been our experience in marriage counseling,” he Replies, “that extra-marital relations are disruptive of marital harmony. A relation which may begin as a contact on a purely physical level, may soon develop into a strong emo-tional attachment. Not many marriages can long withstand the strain of divided loyalties and attention. Of all the angles in a marriage, the triangle creates the most acute problems.”

Very interesting article from 1959. Good lessons on why you shouldn't get "attached" to your play partner.

Interesting article! Yes, some of it is polarized by cultural bias, but our society today is certainly not immune to that either. I'm sure we can and do make sweeping generalizations (like this article does) that we're not even aware of.

Oh, surely! That's part of what makes this article interesting. If you read it while trying to find which generalizations are the precursors of our current generalizations and prejudices, you're in for some interesting conclusions.

I saw that picture and thought...if that was the scene at the time then it would have ended then and there!!! I wonder how much they had to pay those folks to pose for that picture? and where they found them???

OK, what do you people find in this picture that scares you? Except for the hairstyle, clothing and flash-photography-of-the-1950s, these people could well be the friends we invite to one of our house parties. It's the part about being summarily dismissed from jobs that is scary.
