This is a very interesting story, even without the swinging aspect.
The Schvitz is a traditional (as in old country, not gay) bath and steam house for men that has been open since 1930. During the week, men use it as a respite from the world.
But, for the last 30 years, Friday and Saturday night have been reserved for couples. It has been wild almost from the beginning.

Oh, and my favorite line from the article:
The steam is followed by its opposite, a jump into a cold-water swimming pool that snaps the pores shut. "You almost feel like you're neutered," Bahaweg says. "The minute that you jump in there your nuts disappear. Really. It's cold."

My gym has a hot tub and very small cold water "pool" for doing the same thing. And they keep it very chilly. 58 degrees or so if I remember right. No guts here or the heart for it.

Apparently it is. Found a Yahoo group for it, as well as found it on Google maps. Definitely, from the outside, it looks like an abandoned building, or at least someplace you'd not really want to go after dark.

Initially, I heard about it from another couple here, couldn't seem to find out anything on it, so let it drop.

Then I saw this thread, read the article, did a bit more hunting, and found it. No web site for the place, so no easy way to contact it. Not sure, either, if the wife (or I) would want to go, some of the messages on the Yahoo group make it sound like even on the weekends, it's a dive...

We were there once....and we heard gunshots in the distance as we were walking in. It's not in the best area of town.

We were at the Schvitz last saturday, had a great time. We have been going there for 18 years. We have never had a problem in all that time. Sure it's in Detroit but crime happens anywhere. There are parts of Warren I would stay out of also. Check out oakleafbroom.com for more info.

Do you mean the Metro Times article or the website oakleafbroom. We were there when he came in for some interviews. We declined to talk to him. Wasn't sure if he was legit. The article is fairly accurate but everyone has a different take also. The Detroit area is very lacking in onpremise clubs anyways. The Ohio clubs are great because there is no smoking allowed in them. Hope this helps.
