Is a club a good idea for a mature couples first time?

First, we're not suggesting that my wife is an OLD DOG, but we may well be the most mature couple here. We're both 60 and are just now laying the plans out to try to expand our sex lives! When we look at swinging web sites, it seems most the ads are posted by 25-45 year olds. If I had to guess, that seems to be the avg age.

To this point our only committment is to make it a goal to go to a club by winter. Its hard to believe that at this point in our lives, we would be so nervous about sex. We were very close to a couple a few years ago and thought "IT" would happen, but they moved before we could get the courage to do anything.

We wonder if visiting a club first would be a good way to break the ice. We both feel that option would be better if we knew a couple who could be our security for our first visit!

We are both pretty nervous about having our first experience in a private home with a couple. We have this vision of running out of the door, trying to get our clothes on as we run!

We understand that in a club environment we can choose to not get involved but just observe. On the otherhand, we're concerned that that's a lot of action to have thrown at us all at once.

We feel like "soft-swing" is the way for us to get past the nerves without doing anything we might later regret. My wife and I are excited about the potential of swinging, but we are just concerned that the vision is more exciting that the real deal. No matter, we're big boy and girl and we won't let this tear us apart no matter what. We enjoy playing and talking about it almost daily!

FWIW, we see many ads in the 45-59 age range as well, but not too many 60 and over.

Hi and welcome!! We can definitely understand the fear of going to a club for the first time. We had been swinging for over two years before we attended our first club and even then it was in the company of another couple whom we had previously met. It was certainly easier for us to go to the club in the company of others and assume the same would be true for you.

Has anyone ever performed a survey or an unofficial poll about "first time?" Our plan is to visit a club with someone who knows it to get used to the idea (or at least break the ice) then engage in Soft-swing to get used to seeing one another naked, oral, etc with someone other than "us." Maybe because we are older, we feel like moving a bit slow, but will this turn experienced members off?

PS: Some of the concerns you express are the same as a couple of disabled couples I know who would really like to participate in public, but are fearful of being a turn off for others.

Well, we're still in very good shape. Don: 6 feet, 200 lbs, all my hair and teeth and play racquetball twice a week. Mary: is 5'6" 165 lbs, 36D-26-28 (nice ass and boobs) and can keep up with the best! We are very active sexually (of course) and, I know everyone says this, but people always tell us we look way too young to have grand-children! <smile>

Howdy and welcome to the board. Don't worry at all about your age - I know at least one swinging couple that understate their age mostly to show up on more searches. I get the feeling it's pretty common.

I understand the "taking it slow" part. We started out that way too. We went to a nudist resort as a first step to see if we would be comfortable being nude around other folks. I think it helped us transition into the idea of swinging.

We were in a similar situation at the beginning... older when we got interested in expanding our sexual horizons. You could, of course, jump into the on-site club scene right away. From your post that may be intimidating, but you can always leave if that is the case.

I would suggest that you find a couple of off-site clubs first. It may still seem intimidating-- it took us a couple of times to actually go into our first one!-- but problably you will find it much like a regular club, but with just a litle more exhibitionism. With two or three visits you will get a good idea of the clientele and meet some of the patrons. In our area there are a number of such clubs. Each differs in atmoshpere and average age. Three we like, and two we never visit anymore. If you are friendly you will meet a lot of people, many of whom are closer to your age or even older. If not, you can still have a fun time with each other. We always do, no matter where we go.

Alternatively, get on to Swing Lifestyle and use the search function to find those in the age range you would like to meet. You can break the ice by emailing, explaining you are new, and asking for advice about clubs in the area. Most Swing Lifestyle members-- in our experience-- are happy to answer questions, offer advice, and maybe even invite you to meet them there.

We recommend that you do some research and find out the age groups that frequent the club you are considering. Some clubs are mostly younger people (30s) while others have a wider range of ages attending. We were fortunate to go to a club in NYC that had a wide range and we felt very comfortable. She is 37 and I am 20 years older. Our first experience there was soft play with a couple about 60 then soft play with a couple about 40. The next visit we did a full swap with a couple where the guy was 48 and the gal about 45. Since then we have found out that we do not worry about age differences.

We have avoided the clubs where all the photos are of people 35 or less and clubs that advertize that they restrict to "beautiful people." Oh, my gal is as beautiful as they come, but we do not want to mix with an "elitist crowd."
