Members Online vs Guests

The main page for the forums tells how many members and how many guests (visitors/unregistered?) are on line at the present time.
And then it lists the members who are on line.
If the number of members listed doesn't match the number of member names, does that mean some of the members are operating "incognito" or invisibly?
That would seem logical, but I just recently noticed that so figured I would ask.

Im not sure, but i think the number refers to the amount of people that are in the "message board" part. Many people could be in other parts.

I think that is right, wrnakedru. Sometimes I log in in the invisible mode and it seems the number reflects my "presence" without showing my visibility. Assuming that to be correct, there certainly are a lot of unregistered guest looking at the board. I've wondered, too, if some of them are on the personal ad site. Don't know. -EBF

I agree. Your presence is indeed here without your visibility. Your assumption on the correctness your conclusion pertaining to the unregistered guests is very perceptive. I am sure some of them are on the ad site.

The good thing about unregistererd participants is that they are like people walking through the mall. The more you have the more stick around if you have what they are looking for.

I believe the unregistered count is the most reflective of the popularity of this sight.

It would be pleasant if they would anonymousy introduce themselves and say what it is abou this board they like or don't like.

The number reflecting the unregistered guest does NOT represent or have any connection to the ad site, and is ONLY reflective of people on the Swingersboard. Somehow, I got that information from Julie - maybe another thread. I was amazed that we would sometimes have so many unregistered people here.

I really like your analogy about people walking through the mall. I find it impossible to stroll the mall on a hot Sunday afternoon without buying something, if only a Coke. And I learn a lot on those strolls, too. Upcoming fashion trends, home decorating trends. And you learn bunches just "people watching." And you learn a little about the economy. Are people "just looking" or are they carrying bunches of sacks with new purchases? Every now and then I meet a sales clerk in a store that is especially nice and makes me want to shop in that store if only because he/she was so friendly and upbeat.

Lots of times I "stroll" the mall on Sunday, and go back on Monday to really and seriously shop. Maybe some of our unregistered guest plan to "shop on Monday." -EBF

Im a health provider that doesn't save lives, just relationships and brings people back into society. My expertise is in marketing. tho. Notice the words expertise...bullshit...i know how to bring people in. I know statistics ect. but what is happening on this board is going to mushroom soon. Its great to have a lot of people that take time each day like you do to make this a better place. You and I will team up and within our little corner of singles bring them up the right way. With that will come a surprising following. You are one of the most creative people on this board and I think we can team up to kinda get some kinks out of how singles mix in...

the reason i think it's match is because some are listed as couples so they count as two.

This is correct. If you are a member of the board and logged in, you will show up in the member count, whether you are in invisible mode or not. The guest count is inclusive of unlogged on members and those who are surfing the site, of which I'm not sure, but the count may include the chat area as you have to enter the site to get to it.

The total count includes everyone who is on either the message board or the main page of the site (or has been in either of those two places in the last minute).

The nonmember count includes everyone EXCEPT registered message board users who are logged in AND visible

Just yesterday I was posting something (with links) for another question on the board.

Generally what I do is open Swingersboard twice, minimize one, search on the other and the do my copy and paste. Does that make me count twice, since I have it open twice....

Geesh...it sounds like I'm talking in circles, but I'm really not....LOL

No, it would only be able to count you once. The server can't tell how many windows you have open; it just responds to each request for a new page individually, as if they all came from the same browser. The 'protocol' for web browsing is pretty simplistic. The browser says, "Give me a page" and the server says, "OK, here you go" and the 'forgets' about you until you request another page. Does that make sense?
