I lurk far more than I post. It is normal that on most sites there will be many views and only a few will respond. In fact you will probably notice the same people making most of the posts.

A variety of reason for lack of posts.

-A been there done that sort of post. Where it's a repeated question.

-The board seems to run feast or famine as far as activity.

-A controversial post may get more attention.

-So many posts they just get lost in the mix of things. (It took me awhile to realize that you can view all forum activity since you last visited).

This board has perhaps the highest lurker to poster ratio I've seen on a message board. Who knows all the reasons why. Occasionally they come out of the woodwork and I've tried to draw them out before, but some I think are just not comfortable communicating online, others are just here hoping for porn, and still others I assume just have nothing to say.

Yeah... there's the lurkers who never post/say anything, those who'll create a profile and then leave after deciding that the board isn't what they thought it'd be, ...etc., etc.

It's sometimes hard to come up with something "new" to post about or ask which hasn't already been asked before. (Not that the board seems to really *mind*) And other times... I've *thought* about posting something, but then changed my mind (either it's too off-topic or too specific to just me or maybe (*gasp*) ...it's something which I might feel is a little too embarrassing to ask about.

Yes... even those of us who've been here for a while run into that "too embarrassed to ask" -dilemma

I honestly never payed attention to have people had viewed a post until now. But you are correct.

Many times people will hang out and read but not necessarily jump in if they don't feel they have something to add. The great thing is that the threads help many more people than just the original posters.

tnx julie. that does make sense. if it helps people to read posts that's great. truth is, so far, i've also learned in short time i've been here just from browsing some posts.
