Chris&Suzanne is off to a great start
Default What is "reputation link"

Sorry if this is a repeat question, I looked couldn't find anything about what a "reputation link" is.

I hope they can only be good *smile*

I have a couple of questions about it as well. But first to your question. When someone likes/dislikes a posters comment, they can click on the link (bottom left of post box) an give the post a thumbs up or thumbs down. So yes, reputation can be a negative. If you look below each posters name and information (to the left) you will see at green boxes, from one to several. The more green boxes, the higher their reputation. IF they have several green boxes, then they have many thumbs up. If someone gives you a reputation, then you get a note in your message box informing you.

The questions I have are:
1. Why are there sometimes only one bright green box (and several dark green) and at times more than one bright green?
2. When some one gives you reputation without comment, how do you know if it was a thumbs up or thumbs down. Usually people write a brief comment, so you can tell, but sometimes it is just a message that you got reputation without comment.

I assume you are referring to the reputation icon that is at the bottom left of each post. It looks like a set of scales.

If you really like a post, and think it adds to the discussion, or someone will benefit from it, then you can click on the scales, and give the post a "thumbs up". There is also a space to write the poster and tell them why you're giving their post a positive rep. It is anonymous.

Also, if you think a post is not good, you can give it a thumbs down. This is not intended for a difference in opinion, but more for a post that includes a personal attack, is not on topic, or is generally a troll type post. You should rarely need to give a "thumbs down" rating, but it is there if needed.

Here's the thread explaining it all: Reputation: (was: The Scale & Little Green Dots) - The Swingers Board

EDIT: If you leave a negative rep, it does require you leave the reason why.

1. The first five dots you receive are the darker color. The sixth, and subsequent dots, are a lighter color.

2. If you go to your control panel, you'll see a list of the reps you have received. The positive ones will have a green dot next to them, the negative a red dot.

If a reputation has no comment it is positive. A comment is only required on negative reps. You can also tell what type of effect the rep had on you by looking at the colored dot with the reputation (you can check this in your User CP). Red dots are negative. Green Dots are positive and Purple/Gray dots are neutral.

Neutral reps are those left by people who don't have enough reputation of their own to affect someone else's reputation (usually newer users who have not received any positive rep of their own yet).

If you ever get a negative rep and have a doubt about its validity you can send me a PM and I will check it out. Occasionally folks hit the wrong selection and intend to leave a positive rep but instead leave a negative (this is usually obvious in the comment that is left).

The more green dots you see under someone's name the higher their rep count (the more positive reps have been left for them).

You can only leave rep for the same person after you've left a rep for 10 other people (and can only leave one rep per post)

This is really useful information and has cleared up the questions we had about the reputation link.

Reputation? Is that the same as being called a manwhore?

But seriously I had the exact same question the other day and could find nothing on what it was. Thanks for posting this.
