Potential New Feature: Chat while posting

I ran across a program that would allow me to install a feature to allow chatting while you continue to browse the forums and the site. For those on FB it would be like the chat that stays in the footer of the page there while you continue to do other things. I thought I'd gauge the interest in something like this.

If I understand what you are describing, as I was browsing the forums, I could have one on one conversations with registered members that appear on the board. This would be different from the chat room. And I would have the ability, as in facebook, to "appear offline" if I didn't feel like chatting at that particular time. If this is correct, I am certainly for it.

Yes, that's the way I understand it as well. Basically the same type thing you are used to doing already on Facebook or MySpace with chat. It wouldn't be a chat room but private chat with your SB buddies that are online.

I don't hit the chat room very often, so the feature would not be something I would just need to have. I voted don't care as if you put it in I might use it but if it's not there I'm not concerned.

As it stands (the way it's been around here) those who use the chat room aren't typically the same ones who use the rest of the site (there are a few who cross-over). I'm not one for chat rooms either. That said, I don't know that I would really use a private chat feature either, but am always interested in seeing what others think of ideas like this, and more importantly whether or not it would be used (and therefore worth implementing).

Speaking as one of the forums-only crowd, I think it might be a good feature and I would probably at least give it a try to see how I liked it. How much it would actually get used is anyone's guess, but it would add another facet to spending time here.

We would love to give it a try. Let us have a feature that allows us to be invisible or off-line.

OK, I am going to be a pain in the bottom and hold my vote until after I receive an answer to a particular question. If there was such a feature, would I be able to turn the darned thing off or on and off again while I was reading forums?

Not really interested. I use SB as a discussion board. If I want to chat with someone, I take it to PM and then off the board. But thanks for taking the trouble to ask -- hostess with the mostest!

That would be the ideal. The ability to either turn it off or make yourself invisible when you don't want to chat.

I say go for it. I'm not much for chat rooms - but one on one chats, like IM, are okay.
