Opinions on the Reputation System

First off, if you aren't familiar with the rep system you can read up on it here:
Reputation: (was: The Scale & Little Green Dots)

We've had it in place for about a year and a half now and I'd like to get your feedback on how you feel the system is working.

Some questions for you...

Is it working? How could it be improved?
Should it remain anonymous? Or should users be able to see who left them reputations?

Any other comments you may have about the system.

If you take the time to make a comment you should stand behind it, not hide behind anonymity.

Personally, don't think it matters. Just a bunch of little green squares.

Maybe change the squares to cute little naked women and then you have something here.

Really though. I guess some care one way or the other but I think most of us don't really care about this part of the system.

You say what you have to say. Some like it, some don't but does not matter either way.

Damn Lee, I should give you a Thumbs Up rep for that comment alone.

My thoughts are that it seems to work fine, especially since Julie looks at every one of the negative feedback submissions. I think that keeps it in check.

Agree here. The reps definitely helped us when we started reading these forums. The only way it works is by Julie checking the negative feedback, otherwise it could definitely be abused and therefore be worthless.

I think the system is fine. I don't know if it makes any difference or not which is why I didn't vote on the last two points.

I still want to know who negative repped me for saying my wife looked like a deflated balloon after giving birth

I don't know, but I'll agree with them and say that wasn't a very nice thing to say about your wife (and god I hope you didn't say it to her face). And no it wasn't me - I'd have just posted it publicly.

As long as the neg reps are monitored, it's all good.

Chicup, I didn't neg rep you either. Pretty much all women have that same "deflated balloon" look after giving birth, but women don't want to hear it. We just gave birth for hells sakes. I woulda beat Dave with a skillet in his sleep if he'd said that about me.

I always judge a post on the content ..not the reputation dots under someones name. Just my 2c

As you should. I also suggest that you try (when you can) to look at someone's posting history. Sometimes you discover things you may not have realized, and may understand the reasons for the dots (although rarely does anyone ever end up with negative - red dots).
