| ![]() The PM feature allows that as well, but they are both useful features IMO. Of course with PM's there is no anonymity. |

It happened once today... and like a lot of things once is too much.... and yes the anonymity is the problem. Make people stand up to what they write.. Someone could truly threaten someone and you not have a way of knowing who said it... Just saying..

I think I would have to let Julie or some of the more experienced mods explain the importance. As far as who said what, good or bad, or was threatened ? Even I don't know as it is anonymous, for a good reason. I know I trust Julie, as she knows who all reps are from.

If you feel you have been unfairly repped, then please PM Julie. Mods can't edit the rep points. Personally, I don't think it's a bad system for many reasons, but like all things it can have a negative side if used incorrectly. If you feel it's been used incorrectly, then by all means, please let Julie know. Just FYI, no one is completely anonymous in leaving their comments. Comments can be checked out by Julie. So, if one were legitimately threatened as you are suggesting could happen, at least Julie would know the who/where/when/what of that comment. |

Over all there has been very little abuse of the system, which is more of a testament to the character of the board posters than human nature. I was a bit worried when the feature came out because I've seen them abused before. |

I check the rep comments on a regular basis to ensure that there is no abuse to the system and that negative reps are left appropriately and for appropriate reasons (I don't like you, or I disagree with your posts are not appropriate reasons). In cases where I do not feel they are justified or are left for inappropriate reasons I have removed them and will continue to do so (this has happened rarely as there has been very little abuse overall). The point of the system is to allow users to rate each other, so that should a new member come on here and start getting advice they have something to base whose advice carries more merit than others. The main reason it was installed was after a few cases of people who came on as newbies themselves then within a week suddenly were giving advice (often wrong advice) as if they were the be all end all in swinger knowledge. The system primarily exists to prevent that. As others have said, if someone leaves you a negative rep that you don't feel you deserve then by all means send me a PM. I don't get to check the reps daily, although I do try to do so. |

I like the Reputation feature. Some things shouldn't be public just like some people. |

Like with most things, the system is as good as the folks who use it. And I think it's a good, fair system that helps keep us all in check. Julie does an excellent job at making sure it doesn't become a popularity contest (because you can't just give a reputation to the same person over and over) and the anonymity allows you to give someone an "atta' boy" . . . without the pressure of the recipient feeling obligated to return the sentiment. That said, you can't please everyone. =) |

I've been negative repped too, twoforone, and yeah, at first it seems like a cowardly thing to do. But, what the heck - you can't like everyone, nor can everyone like you or what you say. At first I wanted to know who said what they said in the comment, but later figured that it just doesn't matter. I can be a bit blunt in some of my replies, and some folks don't like that. I have apologized in the past when, upon reflection, I went a bit too far in a reply to a topic - so maybe I deserved the negative rep from that person. Still, at the end of the day, negative rep is just one opinion from one person. I can live with it. |

My apologies, Julie. I did go back and read your thread informing of the reputations system. However, I can not seem to figure out how to use it. As in, if I want to leave a thumbs up...how do I manage that? I did find running the mouse over the green squares will give me a statement such as "...name known to all..." just as you said. But beyond that I am lost. My apologies to all of you reading if this constitutes a hijack of the current thread. I am hoping I am not the only person who may have this question. And if I am...then there are lots of folks who could educate me. Please do! |
