There are currently 9 members and 99 guests on the boards.

Why are there so many people on the board, but only as guests?

Is it that they feel like they need to be discreet?

That they haven't decided whether or not this is a place for them?

Is it that they just have nothing to say?

Are we scaring them away?

Maybe I should take a poll...would they respond?

Good question Roxy. I think many just are looking around. I know that I did that for quite a while until I felt like it was a place I wanted to hang out.

As for the members vs guests, if you are a registered member of the board you will show up in the number count of members even if you choose to have your name hidden from view.

I don't understand the reason that some people use that feature all of the time, but I will say that I have used it on occasion. Especially if things were real heated on the board. Sometimes when others see you are on the board (like ya or hate ya) you'll get the PM messages out the ying-yang.

Shyness can be one answer. Before I feel comfy to post here I was a guest for weeks and just "spying" what was said here in order to see if this place was really for me or not. Finally the posts of people like Lori, Mr and Mrs Alura, Brad and janet, Quinn or you finally decided me to join this group.

As I have said today to DragonsLair in a PM - as he welcomed me to be back - my Girl Friend registered yesterday as Uneed_Love2. She was the one who told me about the swingersboard BUT finally I am the one who registered first. I guess she will need weeks may be before she'll start her first post but she has done the first step and I am very glad of this.

People need time to feel comfy just as the baby need time to learn to walk on his feet. Glance at the board and read the posts are the very first step, then decide to register is the second one, and the 3rd one, which is to send a post, can take weeks before to dare to do it. People can be shy with it even if they hidde their identity behind a pseudo.

Another reason could be that many times someone else finally give an opinion which is so close to what we think that we believe we cannot express it in a better way than it is said. It happens for me many times. I very often do not reply because someone else did it in my place and I know I have then nothing more to said about it because this friend express my feelings so well.

"EXACTLY" I read for months before signing up. I had to get an overall opinion of the posters before I would even stick my neck out there and register, much less post. I felt uneducated and ignorant about swinging as was afraid that people would laugh at my questions (of which I had many). For me it was CanadianCouple and Alura that answered my simple questions and made me feel welcome on the board.

Due to their responses to my questions I began to ask the bigger ones and eventually became comfortable asking anything. There were others, but those two stand out in my mind. They are the reason that probably 50 percent of my posts are in the introductions section. I want everyone that takes that first risk to post on this board to feel as welcome as I did when I first registered. I don't remember if there was an introduction section in the format when I first joined, I can't recall there being one (doesn't mean there wasn't though). I think that is probably the safest starting point on the board for just saying nothing other than "Hello". I don't want anyone who posts in that forum to go unnoticed as if they don't get a response to that, I'd have to wonder what they might expect in the other forums.

... I registered on the same day that I discovered the board ...

but I often check the board through the day without logging in, which technically at that point makes me a "guest"

I then have to log in IF I want to comment on something.

Another thing that affects the number it shows for "guests" is that even if you are registered but you aren't logged in, you will show up as a "guest", cuz the system doesn't know who you are at that point.
