We see the links are connected to a lot of advertising. Like when looking at the pics section , it is really wanting you to join and pay to see .... Is this the norm?

YES, that is normal. Everything on the net can't be free. Someone has to pay for it.

Swingers board is free, it is supported by the advertisers providing services.

The Swingers Board itself is FREE. However, the "swinger pics" section is protected by age verification which does require membership to one of two services (SexKey or Universal Pass). Other links throughout the site may lead to either other free sites (from the links pages) or to pay sites. Affiliate fees from said pay sites are what allows the Swingers Board to remain a free service.
